Job Description

Grocery Manager Big D Super Foods The Big D Super Foods Mission As Florence's only family-owned grocery store for over 40 years, we operate on the principle: "We're not in the grocery business; we're in the people business". As the Grocery Department Manager, you are a leader of the "One Team… One Goal" philosophy, ensuring our shelves stay full, our displays stay attractive, and our crew stays motivated. As a Grocery Manager, you will inspire your team, optimize sales strategies, and maintain a welcoming shopping experience for all customers. Your proactive approach and management expertise will drive the store's success and foster a positive work atmosphere. Key Responsibilities 1.
Leadership & Employee Development Culture:
Foster a positive environment where employees take ownership and are held accountable for safety and service.
Training:
Utilize cross-training strategies to develop employee talents and provide them with the tools needed to grow their careers.
Supervision:
Manage shift assignments and hours based on work performance, prioritizing performance over seniority.
Policy Enforcement:
Administer quarterly or annual evaluations and handle disciplinary actions, including write-ups for store policy infractions. 2.
Department Operations & Merchandising Inventory Management:
Regularly check stock levels, ensure all products are "faced" forward, and manage stock rotation (FIFO) to minimize waste.
Quality Control:
Closely monitor expiration dates and remove damaged or expired items immediately.
Store Cleanliness:
Maintain a hygienic department through rigorous sweeping, mopping, and sanitation schedules.
Equipment:
Oversee the safe operation of equipment, including the trash compactor and pallet jack (for employees 18+). 3.
Safety, Security & Compliance Vigilance:
Maintain a high level of alertness for potential theft or suspicious behavior.
Safety:
Ensure all team members follow safe lifting techniques and are familiar with emergency exits and first aid kit locations.
Regulatory Adherence:
Ensure the department complies with all local, state, and federal regulations, specifically adhering to Colorado's break and
FAMLI/HFWA
laws. Required Skills Strong leadership abilities with proven experience in retail management or assistant manager roles within grocery stores. Skilled in negotiation, purchasing, pricing strategies, and sales management to drive revenue growth. Exceptional customer service skills combined with phone etiquette and interpersonal communication to foster positive relationships.
