Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanic Shop Manager to lead our automotive and heavy equipment repair operations. In this role, you will oversee daily shop activities, coordinate maintenance and repair services, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety. You will be expected to drive efficiency, foster a team-oriented environment, and uphold our commitment to exceptional vehicle and equipment performance. Responsibilities Manage daily shop operations, including scheduling repairs, assigning tasks, and monitoring workflow to maximize productivity. Supervise a team of skilled mechanics and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality work. Oversee vehicle maintenance and repair services across a broad range of equipment such as heavy trucks, farm machinery, industrial equipment, excavators, cranes, forklifts, and automotive systems. Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and comply with industry regulations; conduct quality checks on completed work. Maintain detailed records of service history, parts inventory, work orders, and diagnostic reports using schematics and maintenance management systems. Coordinate with vendors for parts procurement, warranty claims, and technical support for complex repairs like transmissions, hydraulics, air brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems. Implement safety protocols and promote best practices in heavy equipment operation, welding, lifting techniques, and equipment maintenance to prevent accidents. Qualifications Proven experience in dealership or heavy equipment repair environments with strong mechanical knowledge across automotive diagnostics, diesel mechanics, HVAC systems, and vehicle systems. Extensive hands-on experience with fabrication techniques, welding (including soldering), electrical repairs, hydraulic systems repair, and power tools usage. Familiarity with schematics interpretation for complex machinery such as Caterpillar equipment or tractor-trailers; ability to troubleshoot using technical manuals. Demonstrated leadership skills managing mechanic teams; ability to motivate staff while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. Knowledge of heavy truck repair including brakes (air brake systems), shocks & struts, alignment procedures, tire service, suspension components, and vehicle electrical systems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; excellent communication skills for coordinating with clients and vendors. Certifications related to diesel engines, heavy equipment operation (excavator or crane), automotive electrical systems repair or HVAC are highly desirable.
