Assistant Produce Manager Department:
Produce Reports to: Produce ManagerPOSITION SUMMARY
Primarily responsible for assisting and working with the Produce Manager in all aspects of the departments operations. In the absence of the Produce Manager, the Assistant Produce Manager assumes the responsibilities of overseeing the total Produce Department.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(responsibilities include, but are not limited to):- Greets customers when within ten feet and four seconds of contact
- Assist in supervising and recommending disciplinary action for associates in department
- Assist with work schedules, assigning work, training, enforcing Company policies and SOPs, productivity and communication with associates
- Assist with the processing of invoices, department reports, employee appraisals, inventory and supply ordering
- Performs basic cleaning of department, hourly checks of produce floor to complete sweep & mop log
- Stocks and rotates produce items, while trimming items to maintain freshness and quality
- Removes damaged items from produce floor and records weight of damages for tracking
- Fulfills fruit basket orders, blows up balloons, adds ice to and cuts fruit to display in section
- Maintains sanitary standards in all areas, especially cutting melons
- Refills produce bags, bale empty boxes
- Performs some cashiering and bagging help when needed, register accuracy, knows/carries out proper register procedures
- Performs other related duties as needed assigned by Store Management
OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use of proper safety procedures
- Takes weekly and or monthly inventory as required
- Able to use knifes, wrapping machine, corn cutter, and pallet jacks
- Able to multitask, listen to directions and follow through independently
- Able to deal with difficult customers, have good communication and observation skills
- Able to work with a team and independently when needed
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION
- High school / Secondary school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age to operate machinery
- Possesses a food handling license
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Previous experience working with the public
- Not afraid to use knives
- Working knowledge of produce codes required, while able to differentiate between different produce products required
- Highly proficient in produce products preparation and uses
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Air condition while in store, subject to outside conditions of heat, rain, and wind, chill temperatures when products need to be retrieved from chill
- Very fast paced
