General Manager/Optical

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager with a specialized focus on Optical services to lead our retail optical practice. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of optical operations, medical terminology, and retail management, combined with strong leadership skills. As the General Manager/Optical, you will oversee daily store operations, ensure exceptional patient and customer service, and drive business growth while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Your expertise in optical products, laboratory procedures, and medical records management will be essential in delivering high-quality care and service. Responsibilities Lead the overall management of the optical retail location, including staff supervision, sales performance, and customer satisfaction. Oversee optical product inventory, including frames, lenses, and accessories, ensuring accurate stock levels through retail math and inventory control practices. Manage clinic operations related to optical services, including patient scheduling, and maintaining medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or EMR platforms. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA by safeguarding patient information and maintaining confidentiality standards. Provide training to staff on medical terminology, anatomy knowledge relevant to eye care, aseptic techniques, and laboratory procedures for lens fitting and adjustments. Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to facilitate clinical workflows involving medical billing, coding, and documentation accuracy. Drive retail sales through effective sales strategies while maintaining a focus on patient care quality; utilize retail math to meet business targets. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to aseptic techniques during clinical procedures and ensuring staff are trained in safety protocols. Support senior care initiatives by understanding the specific needs of elderly patients requiring optometric services or vision correction solutions. Requirements Proven experience in optical retail management combined with clinic experience in ophthalmology or optometry settings. Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to eye health; familiarity with ophthalmology procedures is highly desirable. Experience working with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms; proficiency in medical billing and coding is essential. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure compliance within healthcare environments. Background in laboratory experience related to lens fabrication or adjustments; familiarity with aseptic techniques is preferred. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster a positive work environment. Strong understanding of retail sales principles, retail math, and inventory management practices. Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, staff, vendors, and healthcare providers.
