The Store Manager holds full operational and Profit & Loss responsibility for the store and is accountable for sales growth, operational execution, inventory integrity, team performance, and customer experience. In addition to operating the business, the Store Manager develops future leaders by delegating ownership, coaching performance, and preparing qualified team members for advancement into Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager roles. The Store Manager leads the business today while building the leadership bench for tomorrow.Key Responsibilities:
Business & Financial Leadership- Own store P&L performance including sales, margin, expenses, payroll, and shrink
- Analyze business results and execute action plans to achieve financial targets
- Develop and execute store business plans and local market strategies
- Identify risks and opportunities using reporting, trends, and operational insight Operational Execution
- Ensure merchandising, pricing, inventory, and store standards are consistently maintained
- Lead safety culture and regulatory compliance
- Maintain inventory accuracy and shrink control processes
- Ensure consistent daily operational execution and customer readiness
- Ensure all AH.com orders are validated to company goal Sales & Customer Growth
- Drive DIY and PRO sales growth and community engagement
- Develop relationships with contractors, property managers, and local business customers
- Work cohesively with the B2B/Outside Sales team to support account relationships and fulfillment
- Model and reinforce service behaviors and selling expectations
- Monitor and improve customer experience metrics Team Leadership & Accountability
- Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable to performance standards
- Create and maintain a Great Place to Work atmosphere for all employees and customers
- Conduct performance reviews and coaching conversations
- Make hiring, staffing, and disciplinary decisions
- Build a culture of ownership and teamwork Leadership Development & Succession
- Delegate operational ownership to Assistant Managers and Shift Supervisors
- Train and prepare promotable leaders
- Provide structured coaching and development plans
- Evaluate readiness and recommend promotions
- Support district bench strength
- Maintain company required training badge program Authority The Store Manager independently leads day-to-day store operations, staffing execution, customer experience, and operational priorities within company standards and financial guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- Retail experience required; prior supervisory or management experience preferred
- Hardware or home improvement experience preferred
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills
- Ability to drive sales, manage expenses, and achieve profitability goals
- Solid understanding of inventory management, merchandising, and store operations
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and positive work environment
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
- Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer applications
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform physical tasks typical of a retail environment
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be willing to work in a team, as well as independently
