Job Description

Summary:
Plans, organizes and evaluates the activities both operational and technical for the assigned areas (e.g. Microbiology, Blood Bank, Critical Care/Core Lab, Toxicology, Special Procedures) on multiple campuses when assigned and applicable. Oversees employee management, technical and quality assurance programs. Researches patient service issues, developing and implementing corrective measures as needed. Assists in the development and administration of and ensures compliance with federal, state, departmental and hospital policies rules and regulations to include all certifying, regulatory agencies for laboratory practice that are applicable; i.e. CAP and The Joint Commission. Develops and implements performance improvement initiatives to include assessing outcomes and development of action plans.Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor of Science degree listing one of the required areas of study (Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science) if degree does not list area of study transcripts must be submitted for equivalency evaluation. i.Acceptable transcripts must include:
1. At least 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology) 2. At least 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry) b. One (1) year in approved program or equivalent with certification/registry with an accredited recognized agency or organization (e.g. ASCP, AMT, etc.). ASCP and NCA merged 10/23/09.Experience & Training Required:
a. Five (5) years related professional experience, two years of which have been in a Supervisory/Senior technologist capacity b. Supervisor/Senior Technologist experience within the last the last two (2) years is preferredOther Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Excellent communication , leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills b. Ability to work well within a team environment by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback, supporting team goals, and encouraging fellow team members c. Competency in all areas of responsibility (e.g. Microbiology, Blood Bank, Critical Care/Core Lab, Toxicology, Special Procedures) d. Knowledge of use of laboratory information systems e. Ability to be objective and open-minded, self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure f. Ability to work within the institutional vision and be available to support customer requirements for quality patient care g.Population Specific Competency:
Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignityLevel of Physical Demands:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force continuously.
