This is a senior leadership position designed for an experienced commercial HVAC professional who understands how to lead technicians, manage service operations, maintain strong client relationships, and take ownership of departmental financial performance. This is not a field technician position. The Service Manager will oversee the department rather than carry an assigned service-call schedule. However, strong technical expertise is essential to effectively coach technicians, troubleshoot complex issues, evaluate work quality, and provide direction when field teams need support. What You'll Be Responsible ForTeam Leadership Lead, coach, and develop a team of commercial HVAC service technicians and apprentices Oversee technician scheduling, workload distribution, and service priorities Conduct performance evaluations and support ongoing professional development Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring technicians Support apprenticeship, certification, and career-development programs Establish clear expectations around safety, quality, professionalism, and accountability Service Operations Oversee day-to-day commercial HVAC service operations Work closely with dispatch and service coordination to prioritize customer needs Assign work based on technician experience and technical capabilities Monitor service workflows, response times, and job completion Oversee equipment readiness, truck inventory, vendor coordination, and field logistics Ensure accurate communication between field technicians and office personnel Client Relationships Build and maintain relationships with commercial clients, property managers, facility managers, property owners, and general contractors Handle escalated customer concerns and service issues Participate in customer meetings, site walkthroughs, and contract discussions Review estimates, proposals, and service agreements as appropriate Identify at-risk accounts and proactively address service concerns Financial & Departmental Performance Take ownership of service department financial performance Manage departmental budget, labor utilization, and gross-margin objectives Monitor job costing, pricing accuracy, invoicing, and billing workflows Control overtime, parts expenditures, truck stock, and subcontractor usage Review KPIs and operational reports to identify opportunities for improvement Drive sustainable service revenue growth while protecting profitability Technical Leadership Serve as a senior technical resource for commercial HVAC technicians working with equipment including: Packaged rooftop units Split and ductless systems VRF/VRV systems Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers Cooling towers Boilers and hydronic systems Pumps and heat exchangers Air-handling and makeup-air systems Exhaust and ventilation systems Electrical troubleshooting and control circuits VFD applications Gas-fired equipment Light commercial refrigeration The Service Manager will provide troubleshooting direction, oversee complex service issues, support root-cause analysis, improve callback performance, and help ensure work is completed correctly, safely, and profitably. Required Qualifications 8+ years of commercial HVAC service experience 4+ years managing HVAC technicians or a comparable technical service team Demonstrated experience managing or taking financial ownership of a department, branch, or P&L EPA Section 608 certification Strong commercial HVAC diagnostic and troubleshooting knowledge Experience with budgeting, job costing, labor utilization, and service KPIs Experience using modern dispatch, CRM, or field-service management platforms Strong leadership, communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician license Massachusetts gas fitting license

certification Manufacturer-specific HVAC training Experience integrating or developing growing technician teams Schedule This position follows a hybrid leadership schedule consisting of: Three days in the office One day in the field One day working from home Field time is primarily dedicated to technician ride-alongs, customer visits, site walkthroughs, quality audits, and operational oversight. The position also participates in a rotating leadership on-call schedule, approximately one week out of every five .
