Position Summary The Retail Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the retail store, ensuring exceptional customer service, maximizing sales, maintaining inventory accuracy, and leading a team of associates. This position plays a key role in creating a clean, organized, and welcoming environment while ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures. Essential Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Interview, train, and develop retail team members. Schedule employees to ensure proper staffing levels while controlling labor costs. Coach and mentor team members to improve performance and customer service. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback. Address employee concerns and administer corrective action when necessary. Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment. Customer Service Ensure every guest receives outstanding customer service. Resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly. Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and merchandising. Foster a culture focused on hospitality and guest satisfaction. Operations Oversee daily opening and closing procedures. Ensure compliance with company policies and operational standards. Monitor cash handling procedures and perform register audits. Ensure all safety, security, and loss prevention procedures are followed. Maintain store appearance, displays, and promotional signage. Inventory & Merchandising Monitor inventory levels and place orders as needed. Receive and verify merchandise deliveries. Conduct regular inventory counts and audits. Minimize product shrink through proper inventory controls. Ensure merchandise is stocked, rotated, and displayed according to company standards. Compliance Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Verify age requirements for alcohol and tobacco sales. Maintain accurate records and required documentation. Ensure OSHA, food safety, and company safety policies are followed. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years of retail management experience. Experience in convenience stores, truck stops, travel centers, or high-volume retail preferred. Strong leadership and team-building skills. Excellent communication and customer service abilities. Experience with POS systems and inventory management. Ability to analyze reports and make sound business decisions. Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and scheduling software. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Bend, stoop, reach, and climb as needed. Work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
