Job Description

Position Overview The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in leading all daily operations of the produce department. This role ensures high-quality, fresh products, drives sales, and maintains strong merchandising standards while helping lead and develop the produce team to deliver an excellent customer experience. Key Responsibilities Department Operations Assist in overseeing receiving, stocking, rotation, and inventory management Ensure proper handling and storage to maintain product freshness and quality Monitor inventory levels to reduce shrink and maintain strong in-stock conditions Support ordering processes and backroom organization Customer Service & Sales Provide outstanding customer service and assist with product selection and questions Promote sales through product knowledge, sampling, and suggestive selling Maintain full, clean, and visually appealing displays Team Leadership & Development Train, coach, and support produce clerks Assign daily tasks and ensure productivity standards are met Reinforce company expectations, safety, and performance standards Help support hiring, onboarding, and team development Merchandising & Presentation Maintain attractive displays with accurate pricing and signage Ensure proper rotation (FIFO) and removal of outdated or damaged product Execute planograms, seasonal sets, and promotional displays Food Safety & Compliance Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations Monitor temperature controls and proper product handling practices Maintain compliance with all company policies and safety standards Operational & Financial Support Assist with inventory counts, shrink control, and ordering accuracy Support tracking of sales, margin, and labor performance Help drive department results through consistent execution Qualifications Previous produce or grocery experience preferred Knowledge of fresh product handling and rotation Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Basic math and computer skills Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays Key Competencies Customer Focus Product Knowledge Leadership & Team Development Merchandising Execution Attention to Detail Time Management Work Environment Fast-paced retail grocery environment Frequent lifting, bending, and stocking (up to 40-60 lbs) Exposure to wet rack areas, coolers, and varying temperatures
Pay Transparency:
Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay
