The Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring the ready operational condition of machinery and mechanical equipment to ensure that operations maintain production and quality. This may include equipment owned or leased by the company and/or equipment owned or leased by third parties. The manager directs the maintenance programs for that equipment and the technicians who accomplish the necessary repairs and preventive maintenance of that equipment. This role is also responsible for remaining within the safety objectives and regulatory requirements of operating the equipment. Supervises Mechanics and Gear Shop employees. Ensures the operational condition of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, heavy machines and equipment, and production equipment; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; and troubleshooting malfunctions. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using measuring and testing equipment Develops and maintains professional working relationships with outside parts and supply vendors and service companies. Maintains equipment parts and supply inventories by determining appropriate inventory levels and controlling the inventory stock; anticipating needed repairs and pre-ordering parts and supplies to ensure all maintenance and repair is performed in a manner to support operational efficiency. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintains logs detailing equipment repairs and maintenance, and adheres to the equipment maintenance schedule. Ensures that all equipment is completely inspected at least once a year and is calibrated based on the manufacturer's recommendations, OSHA, and DOT standards. Reviews employee training to ensure a skilled mechanic workforce. Ensures the maintenance shop is properly maintained, functional, and clean. Establishes and monitors a preventative maintenance schedule on equipment. Establishes service schedules on equipment for warranty compliance. Supports on-the-job projects, including identifying all sources of equipment maintenance, fueling, repair, and spare parts. Establishes productivity expectations and tracks the production and activity of the mechanic workforce. Manages the inbound and outbound inspection process. Ensures the ready status of idle equipment. Develops and maintains files on all equipment for historical data. Maintains a positive working relationship with other divisions of the company. Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives. Evaluate and help control maintenance costs. Stress workplace safety, training, and participation in safety programs. Manages parts ordering and parts stock per the company's purchasing programs. Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
High school degree with 5-10 years equipment and gear management. Bachelor's degree preferred. Some knowledge of the maritime industry is preferred. Valid Driver's License and TWIC card required. Highly organized and flexible. Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy. Working knowledge of email, scheduling, and Microsoft systems.Work environment:
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment. Exposure to computer screens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
