Retail Sales Manager - Waterbury Tasting Room Smugglers' Notch Distillery | Waterbury Center, Vermont Full-Time | Wednesday-Sunday Smugglers' Notch Distillery is looking for an energetic, sales-driven Retail Sales Manager to lead our Waterbury Center tasting room. This is a hands-on position for someone who genuinely enjoys meeting people, telling a great story, recommending products and turning a visitor's tasting-room experience into both a memorable experience and a sale . This is not a desk-management position. The Retail Sales Manager spends the majority of the workday directly interacting with customers and will frequently operate the tasting room independently. About Smugglers' Notch Distillery Founded in Vermont as a father-and-son partnership, Smugglers' Notch Distillery began with a Double Gold Award-winning vodka in 2010 and has grown into one of Vermont's recognized craft spirits producers. Today, our four Vermont tasting rooms introduce tens of thousands of visitors each year to our award-winning spirits, Vermont story and barrel-aged maple products. We're looking for someone who can help us continue building that experience—and grow our Waterbury location. What You'll Do Drive Sales Own and actively work toward Waterbury tasting-room sales goals. Personally engage customers throughout each shift. Conduct tastings and educate visitors about our spirits, maple products, production process and company story. Recommend products based on individual customer interests. Use effective suggestive selling and cross-selling to increase sales while maintaining an authentic, welcoming customer experience. Understand daily, weekly, monthly and year-over-year store performance and take initiative to improve results. Deliver an Exceptional Customer Experience Serve as the primary SND brand ambassador in Waterbury. Create an engaging, informative and memorable tasting-room experience. Develop relationships with repeat customers, visitors and members of the local community. Represent the quality and personality of the Smugglers' Notch Distillery brand. Run the Store Maintain inventory accuracy and product availability. Manage POS transactions, cash handling and daily store procedures. Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized and attractive retail environment. Manage merchandising and product presentation. Identify maintenance or operational issues and make sure they are addressed. Lead the Team Hire, train, schedule and oversee part-time retail employees as needed. Coach employees on customer engagement, product knowledge and selling. Ensure appropriate staffing during high-volume periods. Take responsibility for store coverage and continuity of operations. Who We're Looking For The right person is naturally outgoing, persuasive without being pushy, dependable and comfortable working independently.
You should have:
Previous retail, hospitality or direct-to-consumer sales experience A demonstrated ability to sell and connect with customers Excellent verbal communication and storytelling skills A self-starting, accountable approach to work Comfort working toward measurable sales goals Strong organizational and inventory-management skills Basic computer/POS skills The ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining excellent customer service Reliable availability Wednesday through Sunday Experience with spirits, wine, craft beverages, specialty foods, tourism or premium retail is helpful but not required. We can teach product knowledge; we're looking for someone who already knows how to connect with people and sell.
Schedule Peak Season:
Wednesday-Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Off Season:
Wednesday-Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Weekend availability is a core requirement of the position. Compensation $50,000-$55,000 base compensation + performance incentive + tips
