Outside Sales Engineer Drive sales of boiler systems and services, build client relationships, and deliver technical solutions across commercial and industrial markets. Our experienced boiler sales and service specialists are always available with the information you need to make informed decisions about your boiler operations, including design, development, purchasing, maintenance and repairs. To ensure maximum performance and efficiency, we provide customers with the most modern boiler products and technologies available, including a wide range of low NOx and ultra low NOx systems that ensure compliance with the latest emission standards.

San Jose, CA Company Overview San Jose Boiler Works is a long-established Northern California provider of boiler sales, service, rentals, and system solutions, supporting industries like manufacturing, healthcare, commercial facilities, and government buildings. The company offers steam boilers, hot water systems, burners, controls, and full turnkey solutions from design through maintenance. Job Summary The Outside Sales Engineer is responsible for driving revenue by selling steam boilers, heating hot water (HHW), and domestic hot water (DHW) systems, along with related equipment and services. This is a consultative, technical sales role focused on helping customers design, upgrade, and maintain efficient boiler systems. Key Responsibilities Develop new business opportunities across commercial and industrial markets Sell steam boilers, hot water boilers, burners, controls, pumps, and packaged systems Build relationships with: Mechanical contractors Consulting engineers Facility managers & plant engineers Conduct site visits to evaluate system needs and recommend solutions Prepare quotes, proposals, and bid packages for boiler installations and retrofits Collaborate with internal service and engineering teams on system design and specifications Promote service agreements, maintenance programs, and retrofit upgrades Manage full sales cycle (prospecting → closing → post-sale support) Maintain CRM pipeline, forecasts, and reporting Product Focus Areas Steam Boilers (high & low pressure) Heating Hot Water (HHW) Systems Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Systems Condensing & Non-Condensing Boilers Boiler Accessories & Controls (e.g., burners, economizers, feed systems) Packaged/Skid-Mounted Boiler Systems Required Qualifications 3+ years of B2B sales experience (HVAC, boilers, or industrial equipment preferred) Technical understanding of: Steam systems Combustion or hydronic systems Ability to read mechanical plans/specifications Strong communication and relationship-building skills Valid driver's license (field-based role) Preferred Qualifications Experience selling boilers, burners, or thermal systems Knowledge of ASME codes, emissions standards, and safety regulations Familiarity with brands like Parker, RBI, or similar boiler manufacturers CRM experience (Salesforce or similar) Working Conditions Hybrid role: office + field sales Frequent visits to industrial plants, mechanical rooms, and construction sites Exposure to equipment environments (heat, noise, PPE required) What Makes This Role Different Strong focus on relationship-driven, repeat business built over decades Sales includes both equipment AND ongoing service/maintenance, not just one-time transactions Involvement in full lifecycle projects: design → install → service Base salary: $95,000-$105,000 per year. This role may be eligible for participation in discretionary bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
