Job Description
Sales Engineer - Building Automation & HVAC ControlsPosition Overview We are seeking a technically skilled and customer-focused Sales Engineer to support growth in our building automation and HVAC controls business. The ideal candidate combines engineering knowledge with commercial acumen to qualify opportunities, design solutions, and drive sales for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls across commercial construction and retrofit projects. This role partners with customers, contractors, and internal teams to translate customer requirements into effective technical proposals and ensure successful project handover.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and present technical proposals and system designs for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC control solutions to owners, engineers, and contractors.
Qualify leads and manage sales opportunities through the sales cycle, from discovery and needs analysis to proposal, negotiation, and close.
Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, and engineering teams to ensure designs are installable, meet code requirements, and align with project schedules and budgets.
Provide on-site and remote technical support during pre-sales, commissioning, and start-up phases, including system programming review and troubleshooting.
Prepare cost estimates, bill of materials, and scope of work documentation; assist with contract review and change order justification.
Deliver product demonstrations, training sessions, and technical workshops for customers and internal staff.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, energy codes, and emerging technologies in HVAC controls and building automation.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships, gather feedback, and identify opportunities for upsell, repeat business, and long-term partnerships.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Building Systems, or equivalent technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.3+ years of technical sales or application engineering experience with HVAC controls, BAS, or building automation systems in commercial construction or retrofit projects.
Hands-on understanding of HVAC systems, controls strategies, sensors, actuators, and field devices; experience commissioning controls preferred.
Familiarity with common BAS platforms, network communications (BACnet, Modbus, etc.), and control logic programming.
Strong commercial and presentation skills with experience preparing proposals, estimates, and technical documentation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage with owners, consulting engineers, contractors, and internal teams.
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to job sites and customer locations as required.
Certifications such as Certified HVAC Technician, BTL, or vendor-specific BAS certifications are a plus.
