Job Description
Sales Manager - Injection Molding (Sales Engineer Focus) A well-established global automotive components manufacturer specializing in plastic injection molding, metal components, and complex assemblies is seeking a technical sales leader to drive OEM growth across North America. The purpose of this role is to support continued expansion in the U.S. market. The company is looking for a dynamic, technically strong sales professional to develop and grow OEM business within both automotive and adjacent industries. This role offers high visibility and reports directly to executive leadership. Responsibilities (Sales Engineer Focused) Serve as the primary technical advisor to prospective and existing clients, building strong relationships by aligning engineering solutions with customer needs. Partner with sales to identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities, including OEM accounts, through technical discovery, networking, and targeted outreach. Lead technical discovery sessions to understand customer requirements, manufacturing constraints, and application needs within automotive and plastics domains. Develop and present customized technical solutions, including product recommendations, design considerations, and manufacturability guidance. Own the technical portion of the sales cycle, including RFQs, solution proposals, cost justifications, and feasibility assessments. Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure solutions are technically viable, cost-effective, and delivered on time. Support contract negotiations by providing technical insight on scope, specifications, and performance requirements. Act as a liaison between customers and internal teams to ensure successful product development, validation, and delivery. Provide product demonstrations, technical presentations, and training to customers on applications, materials, and manufacturing processes. Partner with global key account teams to ensure alignment on technical strategies and solution standardization across OEM accounts. Monitor and communicate technical forecasts, including demand planning, capacity considerations, and product lifecycle updates. Stay current on industry trends, materials, and manufacturing technologies to position solutions competitively. Minimum Education, Experience, and Core Competencies Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of experience in a Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, or technical account management role within the automotive or plastics manufacturing industry. Strong knowledge of injection molding, plastic components, and automotive manufacturing processes. Proven ability to translate customer requirements into engineered solutions and influence purchasing decisions. Experience supporting RFQs, technical proposals, and customer-facing solution presentations. Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost-performance tradeoffs. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with engineering, sales, and operations teams. Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering customer-centric technical solutions. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
