Job Description

Position Title Inside Sales Representative - Residential & Small Business Security Position Summary The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for converting inbound and company-generated leads into new residential and small business security customers. This role focuses on rapid lead response, consultative selling, needs discovery, proposal creation, follow-up discipline, and appointment setting when field support is required. The ideal candidate is comfortable selling by phone, email, text, and video call, and can guide customers through security solutions including intrusion alarms, smart home security, video surveillance, and recurring service agreements. Primary ResponsibilitiesLead Response & Qualification
  • Respond quickly to inbound residential and SMB leads from phone calls, web forms, referrals, marketing campaigns, partner channels, and customer inquiries.
  • Qualify prospects based on location, property type, urgency, decision-making authority, budget, security concerns, and service needs.
  • Determine whether the opportunity can be sold remotely or requires an outside sales appointment, site visit, or technical review.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up cadence on open leads until closed, disqualified, or reassigned. Sales Consultation
  • Conduct a structured needs analysis with homeowners, property managers, and small business owners.
  • Identify customer concerns such as burglary, employee access, theft, vandalism, fire protection, video verification, remote management, and life safety.
  • Recommend appropriate solutions based on customer needs, building layout, risk level, budget, and desired level of service.
  • Explain system components, monitoring options, mobile app functionality, service expectations, installation process, and monthly recurring charges. Product & Service Sales
  • Sell residential and SMB solutions include intrusion alarm systems, security monitoring, video surveillance, smart locks and access control, doorbell cameras and smart home devices, fire and life-safety monitoring where applicable, service plans, extended protection plans, cellular communicators, and system upgrades.
  • Promote recurring monthly revenue agreements and long-term customer value.
  • Present good/better/best options when appropriate to help customers make informed decisions. Proposal & Agreement Management
  • Prepare accurate quotes and customer agreements.
  • Verify pricing, equipment, labor assumptions, promotions, discounts, and contract terms.
  • Collect required customer information, signed agreements, deposits, and payment details according to company process. CRM Management
  • Enter and update all lead, customer, opportunity, and activity information in the CRM.
  • Track calls, emails, texts, appointments, proposals, follow-ups, close dates, lost reasons, and next steps.
  • Use CRM tasks and reminders to prevent lead leakage. Customer Experience
  • Provide a professional, clear, and responsive customer experience from first contact through handoff to installation.
  • Set proper expectations regarding installation timing, equipment availability, monitoring setup, contract terms, and service support.
  • Handle objections related to price, contract length, equipment type, monitoring cost, installation timing, and competitor comparisons.
  • Escalate technical, billing, or service issues to the appropriate department when needed. Team Coordination
  • Work closely with outside sales, installation, and customer service teams.
  • Schedule outside sales appointments or site surveys when the opportunity requires field review.
  • Communicate sold job details clearly to operations to reduce installation errors and customer dissatisfaction.
  • Participate in sales meetings, training sessions, call reviews, and performance coaching. Required Qualifications
  • Prior inside sales, customer service, call center, retail sales, or security industry experience preferred.
  • Strong phone presence and ability to build trust quickly.
  • Ability to ask effective discovery questions and listen for customer needs.
  • Comfortable discussing pricing, contracts, monthly service, and close options.
  • Strong computer skills, including CRM use, email, web-based quoting tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a high volume of leads.
  • Ability to follow a structured sales process while still sounding natural and consultative.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience selling residential security, smart home technology, video surveillance, access control, telecom, cable, pest control, HVAC, solar, insurance, or other home services.
  • Familiarity with monitored alarm systems, cellular communicators, cameras, smart locks, and mobile app-based systems.
  • Experience working with monthly recurring revenue contracts.
  • Experience using CRM platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Monday.com, D-Tools, or similar systems.
  • Ability to upsell existing customers into upgrades, add-ons, and service plans. Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Primarily office-based, remote, or hybrid depending on company structure.
  • Frequent use of phone, computer, CRM, email, and video conferencing tools.
  • May require occasional participation in sales meetings, vendor trainings, or branch meetings.
  • Standard business hours with possible evening or weekend follow-up depending on lead flow and company policy.
Compensation Structure Compensation includes hourly pay plus commission based on sold revenue, recurring monthly revenue, appointments set, close rate, or gross margin contribution.
A typical structure may include:
  • Base pay
  • Commission on closed sales
  • Bonus for monthly recurring revenue generated
  • Bonus for exceeding monthly or quarterly sales goals
  • Additional incentives for upgrades, service plans, or self-generated referrals.
