Assistant House Manager Description:
MRT, located in Lowell, MA, is seeking a seasonal, part-time Group Sales Representative / Assistant House Manager to support group ticket sales, audience development, and front of house operations. The primary focus of this position is developing and growing group sales across a variety of audiences, including schools, youth organizations, community groups, businesses, nonprofits, senior organizations, and other organized groups. This individual will proactively identify prospective customers, conduct outreach, develop relationships with group leaders, follow up on leads, and convert interest into ticket sales and group reservations. The position also provides scheduled Assistant House Manager support during performances and serves as backup coverage for the Box Office when needed. This is an in-person position, with the majority of regularly scheduled hours occurring during weekday business hours to support sales outreach, relationship building, and group booking administration. Evening and weekend hours may be scheduled to assist house management with performances or special events as needed. The successful candidate will be outgoing, organized, persistent, and comfortable initiating conversations with prospective customers. They should be a responsible, punctual team player with strong communication and customer-service skills, a warm and professional attitude, and an appreciation for the performing arts.
Group Sales & Audience Development:
Approximately 70% of Total Time The primary responsibility of this position is to generate and grow group ticket sales through proactive outreach, relationship building, and excellent customer service. ? Conduct regular outbound sales calls and emails to prospective group customers, including schools, teachers, educators, youth organizations, community groups, businesses, nonprofits, senior organizations, colleges and universities, and other organizations. ? Identify and research new organizations and communities that may be strong prospects for MRT's programming. ? Reconnect with previous group customers and encourage repeat attendance and long-term relationships. ? Build and maintain relationships with group leaders, educators, community partners, businesses, and organizations. ? Promote MRT performances, group pricing, special offers, student matinees, and other opportunities appropriate for organized groups. ? Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective group customers and consistently follow up on leads from initial outreach through confirmed booking. ? Manage group reservations and coordinate with the Box Office to ensure accurate booking information and timely follow-up. ? Maintain an organized record of prospects, outreach, follow-ups, reservations, and confirmed sales. ? Communicate necessary pre-visit information to confirmed groups and help ensure a smooth experience from reservation through arrival at the theatre. ? Work collaboratively with Marketing, Education, Development, Box Office, and other MRT staff to identify opportunities for audience growth and group partnerships. ? Help develop creative strategies for increasing group attendance and expanding MRT's reach into new communities. ? Work toward established group-sales and attendance goals. Assistant House Management — Approximately 20% of Total Time ? Serve as an Assistant House Manager for scheduled performances and events. ? Assist the House Manager with preparing the lobby and audience spaces for performances. ? Help coordinate ushers and volunteers and communicate performance-night assignments and procedures. ? Welcome patrons and help create a friendly, professional, and accessible theatre experience. ? Assist patrons with seating and accessibility needs. ? Help manage audience entry and seating so performances can begin on time. ? Respond appropriately to patron questions and concerns and escalate issues when necessary. ? Support MRT's safety, emergency, and evacuation procedures. ? Complete performance reports as required. Box Office Backup & Patron Services — Approximately 10% of Total Time ? Act as backup coverage for the Box Office as needed, including during staff absences, high-volume periods, and performances. ? Process ticket transactions and assist with will call when providing Box Office coverage. ? Answer patron questions regarding performances, dates, times, seating, accessibility, and ticket options. ? Provide friendly and professional patron service while supporting Box Office operations.
Qualifications:
? Confidence in making outbound sales calls and emails and initiating conversations with prospective customers. ? Strong written and verbal communication skills. ? A friendly, professional, and persuasive communication style. ? Persistence and comfort with follow-up and relationship-based sales. ? The ability to build relationships with a wide range of organizations, community partners, and group leaders. ? Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. ? The ability to independently manage a list of prospects, leads, reservations, and follow-up activities. ? Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills. ? Comfort working with computers, email, spreadsheets, and ticketing or customer-management systems. ? Reliability, punctuality, good judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. ? Regular weekday availability, with some evening and weekend availability based on MRT's performance schedule. ? Previous experience in sales, outbound calling, fundraising, group sales, customer service, education, hospitality, ticketing, or audience development is preferred. ? Familiarity with schools, businesses, community organizations, and audiences in Greater Lowell and the Merrimack Valley is a plus.
