Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Inside Counter Sales Representative to join a leading building materials supplier. This role is ideal for someone with knowledge of the building materials industry who enjoys helping customers, generating sales, and providing exceptional service. As the first point of contact for contractors, builders, and homeowners, you will assist customers in person and over the phone by providing product recommendations, preparing quotes, processing orders, and coordinating deliveries. This is an hourly, non-commissioned position with opportunities for long-term growth. Responsibilities Assist customers in person and over the phone with product selection, pricing, and quotations. Generate sales by identifying customer needs and recommending appropriate products. Process customer orders accurately and efficiently. Prepare invoices, work orders, sales tickets, and quotations. Coordinate special orders and product deliveries. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction. Perform material takeoffs for residential and commercial construction projects. Analyze and size lumber products using company software. Work closely with purchasing, production, engineering, drafting, and outside sales teams. Maintain inventory levels on the sales floor and in the stockroom. Operate and balance the cash register as needed. Research customer credits, returns, and payment issues. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. 1-2 years of experience in the building materials industry required. Strong knowledge of lumber, building materials, and construction applications. Previous customer service or inside sales experience preferred. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Basic business math skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/business software. Comfortable working in both an office environment and an outdoor lumber yard. Ability to work a rotating weekend schedule. Physical Requirements Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds . Ability to stand and walk throughout the day. Ability to read and write English Comfortable working in both office and outdoor environments with varying weather conditions.
