Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Freight Broker directs the third-party logistics of moving freight. The position is responsible for brokering existing available freight, scheduling, and tracking shipments and negotiating with carriers, and handling customer questions. In addition, the Freight Broker also builds new business by developing relationships with outside carriers and customers, matching carriers with customers, and maintaining positive customer and carrier relations.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review the previous day's dispatch, which includes any voicemail left from the previous night, and update the location and trip status.
  • Work with Customer Service daily to see what loads are available to the broker.
  • Follow the "Broker Policies" to insure compliance and efficiency.
  • Continue to look for freight carriers that match our company's service standards.
  • Hold brokered carriers accountable for their actions and service levels.
  • Contribute to company growth by securing suitable new freight and carriers.
  • Ensure that no loads are double-brokered.
  • Obtain and enter directions for new or existing customers.
  • Process all EFS checks through the system following the established procedures.
  • Report all OS&D claims to the claims specialist, and notify logistics payables to hold payment until the claim is resolved.
  • Responsible for ensuring that credit checks are done on new customers and existing companies that have not been used in six months.
  • Responsible for insuring that carriers are turning in all necessary load tenders and other billing paperwork required for payment.
  • Verify and update contact information on the carriers (email address, phone number, etc.
) in the event we need to contact them for any reason.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Skills & Abilities
    Computer Skills:
    Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with the ability to adapt and learn new software as needed. Proficiency with McLeod software is a plus.

      Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.

        Ability to effectively build relationships with customers and employees.

          Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.

            Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

                  Ability to deal with others in an antagonistic situation.
                  Education :
                  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
                  • A Bachelor's Degree (four-year College or Technical School) is preferred.
                  Experience :
                  • Previous experience in the Transportation Industry is preferred.

                  PHYSICAL ABILITIES
                  This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, and the ability to use hands or fingers to handle and reach. Requires dexterity sufficient to enter data and communicate electronically. Must be able to hear and speak to communicate sufficiently by telephone and in person, see sufficiently to examine documents, and view a computer monitor.
