The Role We're hiring an Outside Sales Representative to grow CMS's customer base across West Michigan. You'll be responsible for prospecting, building relationships with builders and contractors, and converting them into long-term CMS accounts. This is a hunting role. You'll own your pipeline, manage your own schedule, and be accountable to a clear set of metrics. You'll report directly to our Operations Director and work closely with our estimating, inside support, and operation teams — so when you make a promise to a customer, we have the infrastructure to back it up. Who You're Selling To Our target customers are: Residential builders — medium to large operations running consistent project volume Commercial general contractors — steady pipeline, looking for a reliable material partner Established remodelers — growing their business, open to a full-service relationship We're not chasing price shoppers. Our ideal customer values accuracy, reliability, and expertise over the lowest bid. Your job is to find them, earn their trust, and grow the relationship over time. What You'll Do Prospect and develop new high value accounts Conduct consistent outbound activity: job site visits, phone calls, referral outreach Lead customers through CMS's New Customer Day onboarding process on new accounts Coordinate with our estimating team to deliver accurate, competitive quotes Manage and grow an existing book of accounts alongside new business development Track activity and pipeline in CMS's CRM system Represent CMS professionally at every customer touchpoint Activity expectation: This role is built around consistent outbound activity — 60+ prospect touchpoints per month. If you're not comfortable with that volume, this role isn't the right fit. What We're Looking For Required 2+ years of outside sales experience, preferably in building materials, construction, or a related industry Working knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction — you need to understand what you're selling Self-starter who manages their own time, tracks their own activity, and doesn't need to be managed Strong communicator — in person, on the phone, and in writing Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Strong Pluses Existing relationships with builders or contractors in West Michigan Experience selling full packages (not just individual SKUs) Background in lumber, windows, doors, roofing, siding, or related product lines Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $50,000-65,000 depending on experience
Commission:
