Job Description

About PodunkAnnie's PodunkAnnie's is a growing, independently owned boho-western boutique with locations in Branson, Missouri, and Hot Springs, Arkansas. We're southern-rooted, a little rebellious, and passionate about helping women express their individuality through fashion. We believe great retail is about more than ringing up purchases. It's about connecting with customers, creating memorable experiences, and helping people discover products they love.

We're looking for someone who shares that philosophy and knows how to turn it into sales. About the Position We're seeking a seasoned retail sales professional who is enthusiastic about selling, experienced in developing others, enjoys working in the community to develop relationships, and is willing to roll up their sleeves to do whatever the store needs. This is a unique, hands-on position that combines everyday retail responsibilities with company-wide and community sales development. You'll work primarily in our Branson store, actively selling and supporting daily operations, while helping strengthen sales performance at both PodunkAnnie's locations.

A significant part of your responsibility will be coaching our owners and managers, helping them become stronger salespeople and teaching them how to develop their own teams. We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to sell. We're looking for someone who knows how to teach others to sell and loves doing it! Key Responsibilities 1. Sales & Customer Experience Actively engage customers and create welcoming, memorable shopping experiences. Demonstrate exceptional selling techniques through daily customer interactions. Build relationships in and outside the stores, understand customer needs, and confidently recommend products. Style complete outfits and suggest complementary merchandise, including boots, hats, jewelry, and accessories. Increase average transaction value and units per transaction through thoughtful recommendations. Demonstrate strong product knowledge and enthusiasm for our merchandise. Handle transactions, customer questions, and returns according to company policies. Consistently model the selling behaviors expected of all PodunkAnnie's employees. 2. Sales Strategy Ownership —
GRITS & BACON
Yes, we must have humor in the workplace, so be ready to play!!! You will serve as the primary champion and trainer for PodunkAnnie's established GRITS and BACON sales strategies.
Responsibilities include:
Develop a thorough understanding of both programs and how they apply to everyday customer interactions. Demonstrate the strategies consistently while working on the sales floor. Suggest improvements to strategies and implement changes as needed. Train management on the proper execution strategies. Develop practical role-playing exercises, selling scenarios, and training materials. Help managers incorporate the strategies into daily selling and ongoing employee coaching. Identify opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of both programs. Monitor adoption and recommend improvements to managers and ownership. Help establish a consistent selling experience across both stores. 3. Store Sales Development Provide structured remote and in-person coaching to strengthen selling techniques. The goal is to create a train-the-trainer approach in which managers and owners become confident sales leaders capable of developing their own employees.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions as needed. Identify individual selling strengths and development opportunities. Demonstrate effective sales techniques and provide constructive feedback. Show how to observe, coach, and reinforce selling behaviors. Develop short, effective sales training exercises. Provide practical tools managers can use with current and future employees. Share successful selling techniques between both locations. 4. Daily Retail Operations We are small but growing. You will often work in the store alone, so this is a working retail position. The successful candidate must willingly participate in all aspects of daily store operations, including: Receiving, unpacking, inspecting, pricing, and tagging merchandise. Stocking and replenishing the sales floor. Maintaining organized inventory and stockroom areas. Assisting with inventory counts and inventory accuracy. Creating and refreshing merchandise displays. Styling mannequins and maintaining visual merchandising standards. Keeping racks, shelves, displays, and fitting rooms clean and organized. Performing routine cleaning, including sweeping, dusting, and other housekeeping tasks. Operating the register and following cash-handling procedures. Completing opening, closing, and daily operational checklists. Assisting with promotions, special events, and seasonal merchandise transitions. Performing other reasonable retail duties as needed. Ringing up customers. No task is beneath this position. We believe leadership starts with setting the example, whether that's closing a great sale, unpacking inventory, or cleaning the store. 5. Sales Performance & Continuous Improvement Review relevant sales performance metrics with ownership and store managers. Identify opportunities to improve average transaction value, units per transaction, and add-on sales. Recommend practical selling strategies based on observed customer behavior and sales results. Help establish measurable sales development goals. Provide concise monthly updates on coaching progress, sales strategy implementation, and opportunities for improvement. Work collaboratively with ownership to continuously strengthen the company's selling culture.
QualificationsRequired:
Demonstrated success in customer-facing retail sales. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to confidently demonstrate effective selling techniques. Dependability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. Willingness to perform all aspects of everyday retail work. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Must be able to work weekends and peak retail selling periods. Comfortable using retail technology and learning new systems.
Strongly Preferred:
Five or more years of retail sales experience. Previous experience training, coaching, or mentoring other salespeople. Experience in specialty retail, fashion, footwear, jewelry, western wear, or similar sales environments. Experience improving sales performance through employee development. Familiarity with retail sales metrics and performance reporting. Compensation & Benefits $20 per hour. Approximately 23-32 hours per week with the potential for full time. Performance-based incentives tied to personal sales, manager development, and company-wide sales improvement. Existing applicable product commission opportunities. Employee merchandise discount & monthly stipend. Applicable employee wellness benefits and other benefits under company policy. Opportunity to help shape a new position and grow as the company grows. Specific incentive terms, eligibility requirements, and performance targets will be provided separately in writing. A New Position With Room to Grow This is a newly created position at PodunkAnnie's, and we expect it to evolve and grow with your help. While we've established the initial responsibilities and objectives, the position may change as we learn what works best for our business and identify new opportunities. We're looking for someone who is flexible, adaptable, and comfortable helping build a position rather than stepping into one that has been fully established. The successful candidate will be encouraged to bring ideas, identify opportunities, and work collaboratively with ownership to improve the role and our sales development program. Responsibilities, priorities, and methods may be adjusted based on business needs, with changes to employment terms communicated separately and handled in accordance with applicable law.
