This position combines strong electrical knowledge with a consultative sales approach. The ideal candidate is an experienced journeyman electrician who understands residential and light commercial electrical systems and is ready to use that experience in a customer-facing sales role rather than spending every day performing physical installations in the field. As a Journeyman Electrician - Outside Sales, you will meet with homeowners and business owners who have expressed interest in purchasing a standby generator. You will evaluate the property, electrical service, installation requirements, and customer needs; recommend the appropriate generator solution; develop an accurate scope of work; present the proposal; and guide the customer through the purchasing decision. This is not a cold-calling position. You will work primarily with company-generated leads and scheduled sales appointments.
The goal is simple:
provide customers with knowledgeable, honest, professional recommendations while helping Oklahoma Generator continue to grow its residential and commercial generator business. Key ResponsibilitiesOutside Sales Consultations Meet with prospective customers at their homes or businesses for scheduled generator consultations. Build rapport, understand the customer's needs and concerns, and provide a professional and informative sales experience. Electrical & Site Evaluation Evaluate existing electrical services, panels, service entrances, meter locations, available capacity, transfer switch requirements, and other electrical conditions affecting generator installation. Identify potential installation challenges before the project is sold. Generator System Design Determine the appropriate generator size and configuration based on the customer's needs, electrical system, property conditions, and intended loads. Recommend generator placement, transfer equipment, electrical routing, and other necessary installation components. Scope Development & Estimating Develop an accurate and complete scope of work for each proposed generator installation. Identify electrical upgrades, service modifications, trenching, equipment, materials, or other conditions that may affect the installation. Ensure projects are sold with enough detail for the installation team to successfully complete the work. Proposal Presentation & Sales Present generator options, installation recommendations, pricing, warranties, and available services in a clear and professional manner. Educate customers on the differences between available solutions and help them select the system that best meets their needs. Confidently ask for the sale and work to convert qualified opportunities into customers. Customer Education Explain technical electrical and generator concepts in language customers can easily understand. Help customers understand what they are purchasing, how the system will operate, and what to expect during installation. CRM & Documentation Accurately document customer information, site conditions, photographs, equipment selections, proposals, notes, and follow-up activities within the company's CRM and sales systems. Maintain accurate records so projects transition smoothly from sales to permitting, scheduling, and installation. Operations Coordination Work closely with Project Managers, sales leadership, estimators, electricians, plumbers, permitting personnel, and installation teams. Communicate unusual site conditions or installation requirements before the project reaches the field. Code & Safety Awareness Use your electrical experience to recognize potential code, safety, and installation concerns during site evaluations. Ensure proposed electrical work is consistent with applicable electrical codes, manufacturer requirements, and Oklahoma Generator installation standards. Ideal Candidate Profile Licensed Journeyman Electrician Strong residential electrical experience Generator installation experience preferred Experience with electrical services, panels, transfer switches, grounding and bonding, load calculations, and service upgrades Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and accepted electrical installation practices Professional, confident, and personable communicator Comfortable meeting and speaking with homeowners and business owners Ability to explain technical information in simple, understandable terms Sales experience is beneficial but not required Comfortable asking for the sale and following up with prospective customers Detail-oriented and capable of developing accurate scopes of work Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in the field Organized and capable of managing multiple appointments and opportunities Comfortable using tablets, smartphones, CRM software, and digital sales tools Coachable and willing to learn Oklahoma Generator's sales process Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Why You'll Enjoy Working Here This position offers experienced electricians an opportunity to use the knowledge they have developed throughout their careers without spending every day performing physically demanding installation work.
