Job Description

Overview About the Position The Inside Sales Representative - Naval Shipbuilding is responsible for developing and supporting sales opportunities within the naval and defense shipbuilding industry, including U.S. Navy shipyards, major defense contractors, and marine fabrication partners. This role requires a strong technical understanding of material specifications, certification requirements, and documentation standards used in naval vessel construction. The Inside Sales Representative works closely with customers to develop quotations, secure orders, and support naval program requirements while ensuring compliance with NAVSEA, MIL-SPEC, ABS, and other governing standards. This position partners closely with Outside Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Logistics to ensure successful execution of orders while maintaining strong customer relationships.
Responsibilities Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers in the naval shipbuilding and defense industry. Identify sales opportunities and grow business with existing and prospective naval shipbuilding customers. Capture and interpret detailed material specifications, certification requirements, and documentation needs for customer inquiries. Prepare timely and technically accurate quotations that meet NAVSEA, MIL-DTL, ASTM, ASME, ABS, and related standards. Support major naval program bids by collaborating with Outside Sales and leadership on pricing, availability, and compliance requirements. Communicate mill lead times, material availability, and technical requirements to customers and internal teams. Work closely with Customer Service and Operations to ensure orders are executed accurately and in alignment with customer production schedules. Monitor project timelines and support expediting efforts for critical shipbuilding programs when necessary. Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, quotations, technical requirements, and project updates in the CRM system. Provide management with competitive intelligence and market insights related to naval programs and shipbuilding activity. Support the Company's Quality System, including compliance with Level I, SUBSAFE, DMR, and other controlled material requirements where applicable.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of experience in Inside Sales, Technical Sales, or industrial sales support. Experience in metals distribution or supply within the naval, defense, or shipbuilding industry strongly preferred. Ability to read and interpret technical material specifications, certifications, and engineering documentation. Strong sales, communication, negotiation, and customer relationship skills. Excellent organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with CRM and ERP systems preferred.
