Produce Clerk Vintage Grocers - 3.1 Malibu, CA Job Details Part-time | Full-time $20 - $21 an hour 7 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Vision insurance Qualifications Customer communication Full Job Description Position Summary The Produce Clerk is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and visually appealing produce department while providing excellent customer service. This position ensures fresh fruits and vegetables are properly stocked, rotated, merchandised, and available to customers while maintaining food safety and quality standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner. Assist customers with locating products and answering questions regarding produce items. Provide recommendations on product selection, preparation, and handling. Resolve customer concerns promptly and courteously. Product Handling and Merchandising Stock produce displays, wet racks, and refrigerated cases with fresh products. Rotate merchandise using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures. Remove damaged, spoiled, or unsaleable products from displays. Maintain attractive and fully stocked displays to maximize sales. Build promotional and seasonal displays according to company guidelines. Ensure accurate pricing and signage throughout the department. Quality Control Inspect produce for freshness, quality, and appearance. Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs to department management. Follow company standards for trimming, culling, and handling produce. Assist with receiving and storing produce deliveries. Food Safety and Sanitation Maintain cleanliness of produce displays, preparation areas, coolers, and storage rooms. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Properly use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to safety standards. Adhere to company policies regarding product handling and workplace safety. Inventory and Operations Assist with inventory counts and stock audits as needed. Unload and organize deliveries. Operate pallet jacks, carts, and other approved equipment safely. Support department goals for sales, shrink control, and profitability. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous grocery, retail, produce, or customer service experience preferred. Basic knowledge of fruits, vegetables, and produce handling preferred. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and twist throughout the workday. Ability to work in refrigerated environments and varying temperatures. Ability to safely operate department equipment. Work Environment Fast-paced retail grocery environment. Frequent interaction with customers and team members. Exposure to refrigerated storage areas, produce prep areas, and outdoor receiving conditions. Key Performance Expectations Deliver excellent customer service. Maintain fresh, full, and attractive produce displays. Minimize shrink through proper rotation and handling procedures. Follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
