Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Produce Clerk at Hugo's Family Marketplace is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of produce is available for our customers. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the produce department, assisting customers with their inquiries, and adhering to food safety and health regulations. The Produce Clerk plays a crucial role in enhancing the shopping experience by ensuring that all produce is fresh, well-stocked, and attractively displayed.
Key Responsibilities:
Stock, rotate, and organize produce to ensure quality and freshness, while removing any damaged, spoiled, or expired items. Maintain cleanliness and organization within the produce department to ensure a pleasant shopping environment. Assist customers by providing product information, answering questions, and offering recommendations. Manage inventory by monitoring stock levels and placing orders as necessary to ensure availability of produce. Prepare items for display, ensuring they are attractively and effectively presented to maximize sales. Ensure proper storage and handling of temperature-sensitive products to maintain their quality and safety. Adhere to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. Collaborate with team members to achieve department goals and enhance overall store performance.

Required Education:
High school diploma or GED On-the-job training is standard
Preferred Education:
Some coursework in food safety, nutrition, or agriculture (optional)
Required Experience:
No prior produce or retail experience required Willingness to learn proper produce handling and customer service
Preferred Experience:
1-2 years of experience in grocery, retail, or food service Knowledge of fruits, vegetables, and proper storage Experience with stock rotation and inventory management
Required Skills and Abilities:
Customer service and communication Attention to detail and product quality Knowledge of produce handling and storage Physical stamina (lifting, standing, bending) Teamwork and reliability Time management and efficiency Food safety and sanitation awareness Organization and display maintenance
