Job Description
What You'll Do As a Same Day Surgery Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide safe, highquality, and compassionate care to patients undergoing outpatient surgical and diagnostic procedures. You will guide patients and their families through the surgical experience—from preprocedure preparation through recovery and discharge—ensuring a smooth, efficient, and supportive experience. In this role, you will: Deliver patient care using the nursing process, applying clinical judgment and critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in both preoperative and postanesthesia settings Prepare patients for procedures by completing assessments, verifying documentation, and providing education to patients and their support persons Monitor and care for patients in recovery, recognizing expected versus unexpected responses and responding appropriately to changes in condition or emergencies Address the psychological, social, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families throughout the surgical experience Promote patient safety and maintain clinical competencies related to same day surgical care and recovery Document patient care accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner within the electronic health record Demonstrate efficient use of time, supplies, and resources to support a highquality, costeffective care environment Collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient flow and positive outcomes Maintain knowledge of and adhere to departmental policies, regulatory standards, and evidencebased practices for outpatient surgical care Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient surgical services What We're Looking For We are seeking a compassionate and detailoriented RN who thrives in a fastpaced outpatient surgical setting and is committed to delivering exceptional patientcentered care. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and teamwork. Qualifications Required Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Preferred Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred Experience One (1) year of experience in same day surgery, perioperative, PACU, or acute care nursing Required Skills & Experience Ability to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition and emergency situations Strong verbal and written communication skills Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills Basic computer proficiency Excellent customer service and patient engagement skills Demonstrated accountability, flexibility, and professionalism when working with patients and colleagues Required Licenses & Certifications Valid Iowa RN license or license from a reciprocating state BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications About Cass Health Cass Health is a thriving, independent rural health system in southwest Iowa.
