Job Description

This job requires the ability to train sanitation employee s on their specific tasks including, dry pick-up, first rinse, detergent application, Lockout/tag out as required for specific tasks etc. The employee must be able to communicate with employees in English and Spanish. The employee must have the ability to read and understand the English/Spanish language as it relates to the training and paperwork requirements of the job. The employee must learn all the paperwork associated with their assigned areas of responsibility (forms, logs, work instructions, procedures, etc.) . The employee must help with written and verbal translations as needed. Computer skills are helpful. The employee must have the ability to learn all jobs in his/her assigned areas to a required level of proficiency . The employee is responsible for all training documentation and must be able to keep training files up to date and maintain their accuracy. Employees must communicate with the area supervisor about any issues regarding his/her trainee's progress. This job requires the ability to reach and grasp both hands and extend arms fully. When possible, cross training in other areas/depts will be needed. Employees must have hand/finger dexterity to grasp hose and scrub brushes . Must be able to work in a cold environment with temperatures ranging from 40º to 50º F. This position will have to work holiday nights to prepare the plant for production the morning after a holiday. Key Responsibilities:
The new Trainer will follow a 90-day training plan given by the Sanitation Safety Representative. The training plan will list areas to learn as a focus during the training plan. A job qualification will be completed by sanitation leadership and the sanitation safety representative to determine if trainer is ready to teach new employees in the various sanitation processes. This qualification will be added to the trainer's training qualification Matrix. Learn the new employee Training process and training documentation as part of the job. See employee training pocket and Training program. Tracking of new employees and documentation of progress and skill levels. Ensuring that new employees are aware of the break-in/conditioning program and tracking their progress of break-in and conditioning, ensuring that employees follow the sanitation training program as stated in the plant training program pages 9-11. Check on new or cross trained employees frequently to ensure job quality, proper techniques, and line speed goals are being followed. Correct any unsafe behavior/technique as soon as possible. Update and maintain employee training files daily. Ensure that employee training files remain in exclusive control of the trainer when taken out of the Training Office. Ensure that employee evaluations are completed as required by the Training Program. Make sure to communicate with the supervisors when new employees are due for their evaluations. Conducting Teach new and cross-trained employees the proper knife sharpening techniques. New and cross-trained employees are required to take chemical specific training, sanitation hazard awareness training, and become LOTO authorized trained. Also, online observation is required before considered qualify to ensure that the proper cleaning techniques continues being applied while on the floor. Extended training can be given as needed. New and cross trained employees should be taught safe chemical handling and storage procedures. Teach employees safe work practices related to their assigned task. New machine operators are to be trained in the required machine guarding for the machine/equipment being trained on. Training employees in safe work practices. Continuously encourage employees to follow safety work practices and procedures.
Examples:
not running in the plant, not throwing stuff, keeping cutting tools in their holders, wearing the issued PPE and wearing correctly, etc. Participation in the New Hire Post-Orientation by presenting chemical specific training, knowing and understanding the hazards and risks behind each chemical. Conduct Monthly safety training for Hourly employees and enter class rosters into the Training Tracker System. Print class reports as needed for supervisors. Issue personal Protective equipment to new and cross trained employees. PPE is kept int eh supply room or warehouse. Complete the supply receipt for all PPE being issued and file it at the supply room. When PPE is returned to the supply room you must document it and write date and your initials on it. Medical - Responsible for translations for employees as needed when in the Medical Dept. Ensure that supervisors are notified when their employees are taken to the Medical Dept. When there is the first complaint of discomfort or pain by an employee is reported to a trainer. Document medical visit in their training files. Conducting OSHA required employee training such as: Powered Industrial Truck Operator training and annual reviews, LOTO authorized level training and annual reviews, Annual review of Machine Specific procedures, chemical specific training, PPE job specific training, Blood borne Pathogen training, etc. The new trainer will first attend a few classes and teach with a qualified person as part of the training. Before teaching alone, the plant safety supervisor or Safety Manager will evaluate his/her skills in the PIT and LOTO topics. Always be prepared to start all training classes on time and have all the necessary materials ready. Maintain the employee Training Matrix for your area/dept. Update with employee job qualifications as needed. Facilitate the area supervisor with an updated list as needed. Sanitation trainer must be upstairs in the cafeterias ready for tier 1 meeting by 9:45pm. The trainer must take breaks with the dept. and work the same hours as the dept unless otherwise directed by training lead, Safety supervisor or Safety Manager. Make sure to communicate with the area supervisor when leaving the dept. to complete other assigned tasks off the floor. All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • High School Diploma or related preferred Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledgeable of all departmental jobs (online and offline) with the ability to describe and perform all line tasks at line speed
  • Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated in performing job tasks
  • Ability to be a role model for good work behaviors and attendance for all team members
  • Ability to communicate with associates at all levels, from hourly to plant management
  • Ability to provide guidance for new associates regarding the facility Safety and Food Safety programs
  • Strong working knowledge of policies, procedures, and rules of the plant and company
  • Translation and interpretation skills, if bilingual Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Previous experience conducting on-the-job training (individual or large groups) preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or data entry (Microsoft Forms, Word, Excel) preferred
  • Bilingual English Spanish or English-Creole (read, write, speak) preferred Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a food processing plant with a high noise level, storage coolers/facilities.
  • Position requires working around processing plant equipment.
  • Must be physically capable of working extended hours if needed and in a wet environment, standing for long periods of time, and operating processing equipment.
  • This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment while in the manufacturing environment.
  • The noise level of the office environment is usually moderate; the noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA and require hearing protection.
