To help students overcome problems that impede learning, and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for maximum positive contributions to themselves and society.
REPORTS TO
Principal
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling, with S-5 certification; at least three years school experience, preferably at grade level at which counseling will be done. Demonstrated interpersonal skills allowing counselor to work effectively with parents, staff, and students. Physical demands - position requires some sitting, standing, walking, and kneeling. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling will not normally exceed thirty (30) pounds, and will normally be in the area of ten (10) pounds.
JOB DUTIES
1.Conduct, as appropriate, classroom guidance sessions. 2.Work to discover special needs or abilities of students. 3.Develop a school guidance plan and maintain a log of counseling activities. 4.Conduct conferences with staff and parents, as needed; provide training for staff in special areas as needed by staff or directed by principal. 5.Assist parents/students in making arrangements for homebound instruction for qualifying students, and other programs as directed. 6.Maintain relationships with social service agencies, which provide assistance to students. 7.Assure the maintenance of student records in accordance with pertinent regulations and guidelines of confidentiality. 8.Provide career guidance lessons according to GA Department of Education guidelines 9.Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff development opportunities. 10.504 Coordinator 11 Identifies student needs and develops small groups based on those needs. 12.Coordinates school wide character education program and/or assemblies related to needs of the school 13.Perform other duties as assigned.

Position is 190 days
