Successful experience as a teacher or counselor preferred Eligibility for License in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) •Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriatePerformance Responsibilities:
Engages in mental health promotion and education for staff and students. Assists with the provision of resiliency education, civic and character education, and life skill education in the classroom and school setting. Applies counseling skills when delivering evidence-based, direct and indirect services to individual students and groups. Utilizes state, local school board, and governing board policies and procedures to make appropriate community-based referrals. Applies verbal de-escalation strategies and assist in the response and support of students in a crisis situation. Conducts risk and threat assessments in collaboration with other school-based mental health staff for students in crisis. Conducts assessments for involuntary examination if licensed through the Department of Health (DOH) under chapter 491. Participates as a collaborative member of the school-based threat management team. Provides school-based crisis intervention in collaboration with other school-based mental health professionals. Gathers and synthesizes data from a variety of sources to inform the School Counseling Program. Uses data and technology to support student learning and development. Applies evidence-based strategies that promote academic, career readiness, and resiliency student competencies. Models and supports respectful collaboration practices between school leaders, parents or guardians, students, district and school personnel and community partners. Maintains high visibility and accessibility, and actively listen to and respond to parents or guardians, students, district and school personnel and community partners. Participates as a collaborative member of the school-based Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) team. Supports students who are identified as at-risk based on Early Warning Sign (EWS) indicators, to include academic, attendance, and social/emotional/behavioral concerns. Facilitates initial, annual (as needed), and 504 re-evaluation meetings. Assists with English Language Learner (ELL) compliance as needed. Applies practices for identifying and closing gaps in student achievement. Shares strategies that support student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators, and community organizations, advocating for the academic, career, and social/emotional development of students, as well as receiving information on student needs and identifying strategies to assist students. Assists all students with developing a path to effectively prepare for secondary and postsecondary educational and employment opportunities. Collaborates with other educators, parents, and the community through teaming and partnering, and participation on school and district committees. Participates in workshops and training sessions. Holds self and others accountable to the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, pursuant to Rule 6A-10.081, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.), and adhere to guidelines for student welfare pursuant to s. 1001.42(8), F.S., the rights of students and parents enumerated in ss. 1002.20 and 1014.04, F.S., local school board, and governing board policies. Adheres to the state and federal legal rights of students and parents or guardians with regard to student records per Rule 6A-1.0955, F.A.C. Documents school counselor interventions and completes required forms and maintains records and reports to meet all local and state guidelines.
