SUMMARY OF POSITION
The school counselor or social worker will interact with students to identify barriers related to a successful student learning experience. Areas of focus include addressing social, emotional, and/or mental health challenges to assist in the development of positive skills and outlook towards self, as well as improved relationships with school, learning, peers, parents, teachers, and/or families.
Starting Salary:
$59,000 MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Master's degree in School Counseling or Social Work. Must hold the corresponding valid Indiana License ( School Counselor or Social Worker ) Previous experience in a school environment is preferred but not required.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Provides individual and group counseling to students and families who need help with personal concerns or developmental problems. Deliver professional development to school staff regarding mental health and/or behavior needs. Utilizes student and community data to plan, identify, and implement evidence-based, culturally competent prevention strategies to meet students' needs. Provides assessment and instruction/intervention at the school-wide prevention level, at the targeted classroom/small group level, and at the individual behavioral/mental health level to address issues that prevent learning readiness. Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies. Serve as a liaison between the student, home, school, and community resources. Arranges for medical, psychiatric, and other tests and examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures. Serve as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations, which are not referred for direct service. Point of contact for Child Protective Service referrals. Develop and monitor a caseload of students with whom they will check in regularly, as needed. Collaborate with school counseling and social worker personnel throughout the corporation. Serve as a QPR suicide prevention trainer. Provide CPI services as needed. Serve on the building's behavioral threat assessment team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to multitask with attention to detail. Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrators.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Equipment:
This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all instructional equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software, printers, projectors, smart boards, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.
Hours:
The regular teacher day is eight (8) hours except on those days that teachers are involved in a meeting or plan session called by an administrator or team leader or teachers having a student/parent conference. 191 days per year.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee may be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
