Aug 24, 2026 Job Description The School Nurse supports the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of students in a preschool through grade 3 elementary school setting. The nurse provides direct healthcare services, promotes wellness and disease prevention, responds to medical emergencies, and collaborates with families, staff, and healthcare providers to support student success and safety. This position is based in an elementary school serving preschool through third-grade students. The school nurse works closely with young children, families, teachers, and support staff in a fast-paced educational environment focused on student safety and wellness.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide nursing care and first aid to students and staff during the school day
  • Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and district policies
  • Develop, maintain, and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans, and health-related accommodations
  • Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, seizures, and other medical needs
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Conduct health screenings as required (vision, hearing, etc.)
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and follow-up care
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and special education staff to support student well-being
  • Promote health education and preventative care practices within the school community
  • Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and communicable disease protocols
  • Maintain inventory and organization of health office supplies and medical equipment
  • Participate in crisis response planning and school safety initiatives
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings
