Job Requirements:
1. Hold a Rhode Island Nursing License AND Rhode Island Certification as School Nurse/Teacher. 2. Evidence of competence in the field of nursing as demonstrated by academic record and letters of reference. 3. Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, and the interview process. 4. Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1.Provide nursing and/or emergency care to students, faculty, and staff to minimize the effects of accidents and illnesses occurring in school. 2.Assess injured and ill students, including appropriate treatment, and follow up. 3.Implement and monitor student compliance with State immunization laws. 4.Maintain complete, cumulative school health records for each student enrolled in the school. Maintain, update, and properly store student permanent health records. 5.Coordinate health screening programs (vision, scoliosis, hearing, dental) including planning, implementation, re-screening, referral, and follow up. 6.Assure school attendance for children who have chronic disabilities, illness, and/or need for medication during the school year. Interpretation of medical data in order to meet the needs of children with special health problems. 7.Plan, implement, and evaluate direct care to technology-dependent children. 8.Work under the guidelines of the Department of Health to help prevent and control outbreaks of communicable disease. Participate in periodic update conferences held by the Department of Health. 9.Function as a contributing member of the school faculty in all aspects of the school program, including but not limited to, attendance at MDT meetings, IEP meetings, and the Crisis Intervention Team, when appropriate. 10.Assist in the monitoring of sports and health examination as needed. 11.Collaborate with parents, students, and faculty to assure that the health needs of students are met and that each student will be a health-educated person and a knowledgeable health consumer. 12.Administer, monitor, and document medication. 13.Assess, plan, treat, refer and/or follow up on health problems that may interfere with the student's learning. 14.Assist in the development and evaluation of health education programs, provide classroom instruction at elementary level, and staff in-service as indicated. 15.Prepare the medical budget; order and maintain supplies for the safe operation of the Health office. 16.Perform other related duties as directed by the Building Administrator or Assistant Superintendent.
