Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District Job Posting Internal/External The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500. The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employees/contractors providing services to our local districts and students. The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.Purpose of Position:
The School Social Work Intern will develop expertise in and provide school social work services, under the supervision of a fully licensed/credentialed school social worker, in accordance with the EUPISD Plan forSpecial Education Programs and Services Period of Employment:
2026-27 School Year, Start date of 8/24/2026Minimum Qualifications:
Enrolled in a program for School Social Work Strong organizational and time management skills, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, diligent work habits, and the ability to apply common sense to routine decision-making Ability to maintain self-control and complete tasks with frequent interruptions Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Must have regular and reliable attendance Ability to carry and move heavy objects and lift 40 lbs Possess a valid driver's license Duties and Responsibilities Level I and Level II- Under the supervision and direction of a fully qualified School Social Work Supervisor assist with : Provision of specially designed instruction to build skills in areas including, but not limited to self-regulation, social skills, problem-solving, and independence Provision of consultative services as indicated in the student's Individual Education Plan or Individualized Family Service Plan designed to support full access to the educational environment Facilitation of universal mental health screenings at the school level, conduct additional assessments and triage students for further follow up as required Development of individual therapeutic treatment plans for students meeting a risk ratio threshold Conducting functional behavior assessments, participate in Emergency Student Assistance Teams/School-based Risk Assessments, and provide relevant data related to social-emotional functioning for in the school setting Implementation of therapeutic intervention groups aligned with student needs in the school setting Development/implementation of social stories and other evidence-based behavior supports with assigned students Positive Behavior Intervention and Support activities for assigned buildings Coordination of referrals for placements and diagnostic services not available within the service area Best practice teams related to School Social Work such as Inclusion Team, regional Youth Mental Health Committee, Restorative Practices/PBIS, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Design and provision of treatment and therapeutic intervention to meet the unique needs of individual children Supporting regional mental health teams such as PREPaRE, PBIS, and Emergency Student Assistance•Risk Assessment Team Connecting school and parents and to model problem solving skills and resolve conflict between home, school, and community Providing interventions and/or educational programming designed to develop social-emotional skills of children in the school setting Provision of professional learning to regional staff, parents, and community-based partners Assist in development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, Emergency Student Assistance and School-based Risk Assessments Timely documentation for all required compliance activities to include progress reports, input to the IEP/IFSP, and School-Based Health Services billing Conducting special education evaluations assigned as per state and EUPISD guidelines to include serving as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET), writing an individual and/or collaborative report, and interpreting social or developmental histories and assessments to school personnel, parents, community-based partners and when appropriate, the student Must have regular and reliable attendance As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times Other duties as may be assigned by the
