About Us:

Keala Pono Archaeological Consulting is a minority and woman-owned small business that promotes the preservation and stewardship of cultural resources and emphasizes community outreach. We are looking for individuals who share our enthusiasm for community-based archaeology and work well both independently and in a family-style company atmosphere. Keala Pono is seeking to immediately fill the following position: Osteologist (Part-Time or On-Call) We are seeking an Osteologist to join our team immediately on an on-call or part-time basis. You will provide critical skeletal analysis support for both field archaeology and laboratory processing. This role offers excellent scheduling flexibility, remote report-writing opportunities, and paid training to align with our project standards. Competitive hourly pay will be offered, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities Field Assessments:

Conduct site visits to archaeological work areas to identify and differentiate between human and faunal remains.

Skeletal Analysis:

Perform detailed laboratory analysis of faunal remains.

Reporting:

Prepare clear, professional technical reports documenting osteological findings.

Archaeological Support:

Assist field teams with monitoring, surveys, lab work, and archival research as needed.

Documentation:

Contribute to broader archaeological report writing and data synthesis. Requirements & Qualifications College degree in Anthropology, Bioarchaeology, Evolutionary Biology, or similar field, with specific coursework or a field school certification in human and faunal osteology. Specialized knowledge in human and faunal osteology. Basic understanding of laws regarding the treatment of Native Hawaiian human skeletal remains (iwi kūpuna). Familiarity with Pacific or Hawaiian archaeological contexts and cultural protocol. Strong technical writing and data collection skills. Ability to travel for on-site field assessments (primarily O'ahu; neighbor island travel may occasionally be required). Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle preferred. Strong alignment with community-based archaeology and collaborative teamwork.

Pay:
