is seeking a Project Archeologist for full-time, permanent employment. Work location is between our corporate office in Portland, Oregon, and our field office in Warm Springs, Oregon. Occasional regional travel is required. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position that will report to the Cultural Resources Program Manager. Geo Visions is a tribally-owned firm that offers unique and exciting projects across the region. Geo Visions core mission is to improve the quality and public benefit of cultural studies, with an emphasis on the studies' relationship(s) to tribal and other descendant communities, whose culturally affiliated places, resources, and material remains are the subject of study. The successful candidate will become a core member of our multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for successfully proposing and executing projects, directing field crews, leading all aspects of project implementation and execution, and writing up and presenting results. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Leading fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping. Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports. Works under supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision. Supervise personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed. Assist with project management and author proposal scopes and budgets. Providing specialist technical advice on cultural resource management to clients. Liaise and develop positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders. Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, and Oregon and Washington cultural resources rules and regulations. Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner. Ability to handle multiple tasks and communicate priorities and resource needs to Program Manager. Minimum Qualifications MA or MS in anthropology. Meets the Secretary of Interior's professional qualification standards in Archaeology and the State of Oregon definition of a Qualified Archaeologist (ORS 390.235). Professional understanding and experience working with applicable cultural resource and environmental laws (Tribal, Federal and State; e.g. NEPA, NHPA, AIRFA and NAGPRA). Experience with implementing Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Experience evaluating cultural aspects of projects as part of NEPA) review. Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Pacific Northwest. Current valid driver's license and U.S. government issued identification required. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and demonstrable training in cultural anthropology, anthropological archaeology, ethnoarchaeology, or similar discipline. Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office. Relevant field experience in the Pacific Northwest. Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty areas (e.g., cultural anthropology, historic archaeology, geography, human and environment relationships, oral histories, etc.). Experience managing cultural resources management projects, including budgets, scheduling, and scopes of work. Experience with tribal consultation. Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies. Proficiency in the use of Trimble and tablets for GPS data collection, as well as ArcGIS software. Has worked on an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners. Working Conditions:
The position works within a professional office environment, WFH, and secondarily in the field. The role involves the use of standard computer and office equipment, tablets and GPS units, and topographic maps and field orientation equipment. Occasional strenuous activity may be required to access project sites, transport equipment to project sites, and assist in occasional field activities as a mentor to junior staff.
