Job Description
Essential Functions RK&K is seeking Secretary of the Interior (SOI)-qualified archaeologist for an embedded agency position in Maryland. This is a temporary, full-time (32hr/week) position based in Central Maryland. Period of work will extend from September 2026 through June 2027. Work will require 2 days a week in the agency office and 2 days of remote work. The candidate will collaborate closely with RK&K archaeologists and agency archaeologists. This position will not require regular travel out of state, some limited travel within Maryland may be required. Successful candidate will serve as a Principal Investigator/Project Manager responsible for the completion of several archaeological projects in various stages of completion, overseeing existing staff in the completion of artifact analysis and curation and report preparation, and serving as the QA/QC manager for all reports and technical deliverables. Candidate will be managing the project, prioritize work, assisting agency staff, and act as a Liaison with agency management. Candidate will maintain oversight of the master project completion schedule, hold weekly meetings to discuss progress of individual project tasks, maintain project management spreadsheet, and provide status updates to agency and RK&K management. Required Skills and Experience Advanced degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field 5+ years of archaeological experience (Eastern US preferred) 2+ years of archaeological field project management experience implementing archaeological work plans and supervising archaeological crew chiefs and field archaeologists Secretary of the Interior (SOI)-qualified in archaeology Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) Experience with both precontact and historic period archaeological research Understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act Ability to work independently and as part of a team that includes archaeologists, architectural historians, and environmental planners Solid research, technical writing, and communication skills Strong attention to detail when authoring and reviewing work Fluent with Microsoft Office Experience with ArcGIS, preferred Additional Requirements Ability to work well with others Ability to pass a background check Valid driver's license and clean driving record Physical Demands This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards. Pay Range:
$30.00-$33.00 per hour - Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and qualifications.Benefits
