Scientist I Job Description Join a dedicated team as a Scientist I, specializing in Antibody Conjugation. Based in Carlsbad, CA, you will play a critical role in producing fluorescently labeled bioconjugates primarily used for cell signaling across various research initiatives. This position operates on the 1st shift and requires a hands-on approach in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Conjugate monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies. Perform accurate, aseptic lab techniques with proper documentation and manufacturing practices. Utilize general lab equipment including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, and pipettes. Conduct chromatography, buffer and reagent preparation, and FPLC (AKTA). Initiate and manage Problem Reports for both planned and unplanned deviations and failures. Act as an agent of change and a role model leader for peers. Accurately document and complete all manufacturing batch records independently. Open change orders to create and revise documentation related to the department. Efficiently navigate through laboratory database systems independently. Follow verbal and written instructions. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Adhere to all departmental SOPs, guidelines, and procedures. Communicate issues in a timely and effective manner. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological science. 2+ years of experience in cellular or microbiology laboratory techniques within a manufacturing or R D setting. Proficiency with chromatography techniques. Understanding of GLP and GMP processes and documentation. Experience with AKTA machines and bioconjugation. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience with fluorescently labeled antibodies. Experience handling problem reports, deviations, or CAPAs. Experience in opening or revising change orders. Familiarity with laboratory database systems / LIMS. Background in biotech or life sciences manufacturing. Demonstrated contributions to continuous improvement. Informal leadership or peer mentoring experience. Work Environment This position is fully lab-based in Carlsbad, CA, with a 40-hour workweek, Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 4 PM. The work environment requires sitting, standing, walking, and occasional use of a stepstool. The role involves handling fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals and requires adherence to safety protocols. You will be part of a small team responsible for initiating work orders and ensuring timely delivery and quality control of products. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Carlsbad, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $31.00/hr.
