Position Overview Pay range: $15.50 - $19.50 / hour

Job Highlights Being a patient care technician (PCT) at UAB Medicine is the perfect way to gain hands-on experience for those pursuing a career in health care or while you're in nursing school. This direct patient care role assumes responsibility for certain technical aspects of inpatient care, as directed by the RN or LPN on the unit, and they work side by side with bedside nurses as part of a care team.
PCT responsibilities can include:
assisting patients with everyday needs (including bathing, restroom/bedpan assistance, etc.), monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, weight, input and output), performing EKGs, drawing blood and performing finger sticks, obtaining specimens for testing, helping nursing staff administer basic treatments, notifying nursing staff of any issues or concerns, keeping patient rooms clean and sanitized, ensuring that rooms have adequate patient care supplies, and providing appropriate emotional support. The Gynecology Oncology (GYNX) Unit is a 30-bed acute care unit providing care to patients admitted for gynecology oncology care, pelvic floor and urogynecologic disorders, reproductive endocrinology and infertility services, postpartum, and obstetric and hematology oncology off-service patients. Job Description To assume responsibility for certain technical aspects of patient care as directed by the RN/LPN for the hospital. To obtain and record vitals, weight, inputs and outputs. To successfully complete an in-house PCT training program. To demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. Certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within thirty (30) days of date of employment required. CPR certified within 30 days of employment.
