Major responsibility will include accurate logging of soil borings. The Geotechnical Logger will also assist in the laboratory and perform other field activities, as directed by the supervisor. With moderate supervision the Geotechnical Logger shall perform the following: Perform soil and rock logging in the field in accordance with the established procedures. Prepare and turn in accurate, detailed boring logs, including field classification of soil and rock samples, documentation of field testing, and other pertinent data. Provide leadership to the drilling crew. Assist with site reconnaissance and record observations. Layout and staking of borings. Contact utility service providers and request clearance of utility lines. Assist with the preparation of boring logs in the computer. Collect and transport required logging supplies and tools to the project site. Package and label samples for transportation to the laboratory. Follow all safety protocols and meet all quality control requirements. Report to work on time as directed by the supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must have a High School diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related field and G.I.T. certification is preferred. Minimum of one year of comparable experience. Possess a current valid state-issued driver's license and meet the company's auto insurability requirements. Must be able to pass the Occupational Safety and Health Act 40-hour training course within three months after employed. The Geotechnical Logger must have excellent communication skills to interact with clients and staff successfully, having clarity and understanding in order to prevent errors. This includes being able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. You must also have above-average writing skills with handwriting that is accurate and legible for marking and logging samples correctly. Organizational skills are important in this role to utilize company resources efficiently and effectively. Familiarity with personal computer applications is important. Continuously required to use hands and reach. This position requires you to lift and/or carry up to 70 pounds to include, but not limited to, sample containers and equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision, depth vision. Work environment includes potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow implement and follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment. This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
