Positions are statewide, in various locations throughout Alabama. This is highly professional and scientific work in diagnosing complex, emerging and new animal and human diseases utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and procedures. Responsibilities Plan, develop, and direct the work of molecular diagnostic testing Review/recommend new methodologies Serve as a technical consultant for BCL regarding molecular testing Consult with international, national, federal, and state experts regarding protocols & procedures, equipment, and opinions for implementation and purchasing decisions Diagnose complex human diseases using molecular analysis Maintain skills, knowledge, and proficiency to remain competent in testing Coordinate and implement verification, establishment, and comparison studies Compile, interpret, and organize technical data Prepare and review procedure manuals Document, review, and evaluate quality control, quality assurance & proficiency tests Supervise employees and give feedback to managers/supervisors Participate in the interview process to hire qualified candidates for testing Qualifications Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field 3 years of complex lab experience in testing or research The Alabama Department of Public Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
