This full-time, lab-based role is ideal for a recent graduate with a relevant master's degree who is excited to develop and apply advanced cryobiology, biochemistry, and neuroscience techniques in a highly collaborative research environment.
Key responsibilities may include:
  • Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments related to cryopreservation and rewarming of large tissues and organs, including brain tissue.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of new, non-toxic cryoprotective agents (CPAs) for cells, tissues, and organs.
  • Perform molecular biology and cell biology experiments (e.g., molecular cloning, PCR, tissue culture, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy) as needed for project goals.
  • Conduct animal-based studies (mouse and/or pig), including surgeries, tissue collection, organ perfusion, and related procedures, following ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Use differential scanning calorimetry and related analytical techniques to characterize CPA properties and their effects on tissue cryopreservation.
  • Apply neurology/physiology methods such as neuronal or brain-slice patch clamp, multi-electrode array recordings, and slice culture preparation to evaluate post-thaw tissue function.
  • Assist in data analysis, documentation of experimental results, and preparation of reports, presentations, and potential publications.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to move existing projects forward and help shape new research directions in cryobiology and cryonics.
  • Other duties as assigned Qualifications
  • Master's degree (or higher) in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Solid research foundation with hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas (multiple are strongly preferred): o Strong biochemistry background, especially related to solution chemistry or cryoprotectants.
o Molecular/cell biology techniques (e.g., cloning, PCR, tissue culture, flow cytometry, microscopy). o Animal work (mouse or pig), including surgeries, tissue collection, or organ perfusion. o Differential scanning calorimetry or similar biophysical methods. o Neurology research (neuronal or brain slice electrophysiology, multi-electrode arrays, slice cultures). o Warming technologies such as dielectric heating or nano-warming. o Quantitative data analysis and scientific computing.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and complete experiments, analyze data, and clearly communicate findings in written and verbal form. Desired skills and attributes
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a small, collaborative team.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and implementing new experimental techniques.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and willingness to propose new ideas and project directions.
  • Positive attitude and professional communication skills when working with colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds.
  • Interest in cryonics, cryobiology, and long-term organ/brain preservation is a plus. What we offer
  • Opportunity to work at the forefront of cryobiology research with direct impact on organ preservation and brain tissue research.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven environment within the Alcor Life Extension Foundation.
  • Competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and 401(k).
