Resurgence Biomedical Sciences (RBS) Boynton Beach, Florida Independent Contractor | Part-time | On-call | Domestic and occasional international travel Organization Overview Resurgence Biomedical Sciences is a nonprofit research organization focused on advancing the science and clinical practice of biostasis and related preservation technologies. We work in close coordination other Biostasis Companies. Our work sits at the intersection of perfusion science, donor recovery, applied physiology, and translational research. We want to train our teams operating in the field. Position Summary RBS is seeking a perfusionist to serve as a contractor and subject matter expert. This role combines hands-on case work, team training, protocol development, and practical engineering problem solving. This is important as we make constant changes to our systems depending on protocols, solutions or equipment used etc. You will assist with biostasis cases, help design and refine perfusion systems, and train Standby Stabilization and Transport teams in field perfusion techniques. Field perfusion might take place in a specialized Biostasis Ambulance, Funeral home or other nonstandard situations. This is not a hospital pump room position. Cases are infrequent but technically demanding. The work is protocol-driven and research-oriented. You will help shape a growing operational and scientific program and make a real contribution to medical research and assist in building an industry. This might be the most interesting job you will ever have. While the position will begin as contractor it might later evolve. Scope of Work The contractor structure includes:
- Monthly retainer for biostasis case availability and training preparation
- Regular Florida-based training days with RBS and SA teams
- Participation in domestic biostasis cases with travel ourside South Florida
- Occasional short-notice activations
- Limited European operational setup and training support Estimated annual compensation is approximately $100,000, depending on case volume and training load. Core Responsibilities
- Perform and supervise perfusion during biostasis cases
- Train clinical teams in perfusion setup, cannulation support, circuit management, and troubleshooting
- Develop and refine perfusion protocols for field and controlled environments
- Assist in equipment selection, modification, and engineering improvements
- Maintain documentation standards consistent with research and quality oversight
- Participate in limited international program development as needed Professional Profile
- Board-certified perfusionist with significant independent case experience (ABCP Certification) Minimum 5 years independent cardiopulmonary bypass experience required.
- Comfortable working outside a traditional hospital setting
- Strong understanding of circuit design, hemodynamics, with training and study in preservation physiology
- Mechanically inclined and able to solve practical equipment problems
- Interested in research with long-term medical science impact
- Comfortable teaching clinicians and non-perfusion specialists This position offers flexible engagement, meaningful scientific involvement, and the opportunity to build a program rather than simply staff a service.
Ethical and Professional Alignment This role is for someone who finds perfusion science intrinsically interesting and wants to apply it in a setting that contributes to long-term medical research. You should be comfortable working carefully and deliberately in situations where reproducibility and documentation matter as much as speed. You will be part of a small, serious team. There is no time clock. Readiness and preparation matter. Independent study is expected. We value people who think, read, question assumptions, and improve systems. If you are looking for volume and overtime, this is not that role. If you are looking for meaningful work at the edge of applied physiology and preservation science, and flexibility, this may be a good fit. To apply, submit your CV and a short statement explaining why this field interests you.
