Can classify and describe findings on each case following established laboratory criteria and policies.
Essential Key Responsibilities:
The listing of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded as the departmental Supervisor may deem necessary from time to time. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists the Supervisor in the day-to-day operation of the cytology lab on the assigned shift. Performs responsibilities and assigned tasks in a manner conducive to rendering accurate and quality results. Performs responsibilities and assigned tasks in an efficient and productive manner. Capable of performing all of the duties/responsibilities of a cytotechnologist. Works to ensure responsibilities and assigned tasks are performed in a timely fashion and that departmental work meets established service and quality goals. Consults with and /or makes recommendations to the Supervisor concerning the operation of the department, including policies, procedures, and equipment applications. Processes paperwork associated with cytology, including report entry in the LIS system, gross description, microscopic description, diagnosis, and generating final reports. Retrieves previous negative slides on cases that are now determined to be high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions or higher. Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies. Recognizes in near real-time acceptable and unacceptable quality of stained slides and provides feedback to the supervisor for corrective actions if warranted.- Assist as directed by the Supervisor in the development, execution, and/or validation of new procedures.
- Assist the supervisor with special projects, as assigned.
- Meets all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards.
- Follows all safety precautions and infection control policies.
- Contributes to a clean, well-organized, and safe work area.
Education:
Baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university, AND successful completion of a CAAHEP accredited Cytotechnologist program within the last five years.- SCT (ASCP) Specialist in Cytotechnology, ORIGINAL

To be eligible for this examination category, an applicant must satisfy the requirements of at least one of the following routes: A Route of Eligibility MUST be selected when applying for examination.ROUTE 1 CT
(ASCP) certification, a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university and three years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in cytology in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory- within the last six years.
ROUTE 2 CT
(ASCP) certification, a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university and three years of full-time acceptable experience as an academic educator in cytology at a regionally accredited college/ university in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory- within the last six years.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in cytologyRequirements:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment visual color discrimination test (ISHIHARA TEST)
- Successful completion of annual education units per state licensure and/or ASCP guidelines.
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Keeps patient confidentiality as indicated in the HIPAA compliance program. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff. Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and recognize and correct hazardous conditions. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Skill in using computer programs and applications. Ability to listen, read, understand, and follow oral, and written instruction. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies Ability to identify and resolve problems. Equipment- Computers, computer programs, information system, scanners, forceps, rulers, tissue dyes, scalpel or razor blades, microtomes, cryostats, water baths, slide rack, tissue processor, drying ovens, automatic strainers, cover slippers, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Environmental Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Laboratory/Office work environment with exposure to various chemicals and equipment. Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Safety equipment and personal protective equipment are provided and required. Requires a normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and laboratory equipment. On-call status after normal hours of operations. Some travel required (conferences, client/prospective client visits). Laboratory Setting; exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, blood borne pathogens, chemical hazards and sharp instruments.Pay:
