Oversees daily operations in the Molecular and Cell Culture Cores, ensuring all procedures are followed accurately. Develops and implements laboratory procedures for optimal biospecimen quality and research data collection. Monitors and maintains inventory control, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available and in good working condition. Conducts specimen processing, including nucleic acid and protein extractions, cryopreservation, and cell culture. Collaborates with the Biorespository Sr. Scientist/Coordinator and other laboratory staff to optimize assay development and laboratory protocols. Evaluates and ensures the quality control of biospecimens and laboratory processes. Assists in the development and optimization of molecular and protein assays. Provides training and guidance to laboratory staff on proper techniques and protocols. Maintains accurate records of laboratory activities, including specimen processing and data analysis. Ensures compliance with all safety regulations and laboratory standards. Troubleshoots and resolves any issues related to laboratory equipment or procedures. Participates in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in the field.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory procedures or processes performed in department or work area assigned. [Required] Able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English with patients, staff, and customers of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner. [Required] Ability to read text and numbers in English, with demonstrated ability to comprehend, measure, reason, match, problem solve, and exercise judgment under supervision. Ability to respond appropriately to buzzers, bells, flashing lights, and pagers. [Required] Ability to learn and apply computer-related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices, as well as demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel). [Required] Highly organized and detail-oriented. [Required] Shows mature judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within healthcare guidelines and applicable regulations. [Required] Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals, and/or irritants appropriately and safely. [Required] Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to multitask effectively and display flexibility in task completion and organization of daily workflow. [Required] Ability to develop new techniques and procedures as needed for research protocol development. [Required] Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications, as well as the ability to prepare technical procedures and reports. [Required] Possesses a strong desire to work in a unique clinical or research laboratory setting. [Required] Proficiency in a wide variety of laboratory techniques in specimen preparation, ranging from making basic solutions, reagents, and buffers to performing more complex processes such as DNA/RNA extractions, protein extractions, PCR preparation, stem cell isolations and cell culture, and preparations for histological evaluations. [Preferred] Mastery of a wide variety of laboratory and molecular-based techniques such as standard PCR, qPCR, DNA
sequencing, microarray analysis, gel electrophoresis, spectroscopy, Western Blot, ELISA, FACS, and flow cytometry. [Preferred] Proficiency in preparation, replication, and management of cell lines. [Preferred] Proficiency in the use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a variety of automated and manual laboratory instruments, particularly those used in the areas of molecular and protein analysis such as nucleic acid extractors, thermocyclers, sequencers, spectrophotometers, etc. [Preferred] Ability to contribute knowledge to the design and implementation of novel molecular and protein assays, and quality control metrics for various types of biospecimens. in Healthcare, Business or related fieldWork Experience:
2+ of experience in a clinical research, biopharmaceutical, or basic science laboratory setting appropriate to department work assigned [Required] 2+ of relevant experience in a field of cell-based research (ie. molecular, drug discovery), including extensive work with nucleic acid and protein analyses. [Preferred] Experience with cell culture and asceptic technique.
