Professional Staff Job Description Summary:
The Badawi lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center's Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics is looking for a postdoctoral neuroscientist to study cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurological function and disease. The focus of this training position is to characterize synaptic physiology, mechanisms of dysfunction, and biomarker identification in disease-relevant contexts. The research is hosted in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead and actively participate in the design, planning, and execution of research experiments aimed at addressing core mechanistic questions in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with the goal of developing neural circuit-based therapeutic strategies Conduct independent research, interpret experimental results and analyze data generated from their studies. Assist in the preparation of grant applications, reports, and manuscripts Maintain rodent colonies and animal care and perform experiments involving tissue collection, live imaging and recordings Contribute to establishing and maintaining laboratory records, including experimental data and protocols Assist in training other laboratory personnel in experimental techniques and best practices This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Neuroscience Work Experience:
Experience working with rodent models, microscopy, proteomics, and performing molecular biology techniques including PCR, immunoblotting, and immunostaining Collect and analyze data for publications and grant proposals and assisting in day-to-day operations in the laboratory Mentorship experience of junior technicians and trainees within a laboratory setting This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Experience:
Experience in studying pathological changes in neurodegenerative disorders Experience in molecular and cellular biology, neurodegenerative diseases, data evaluation and interpretation, data presentation and scientific writing skills Experience with handling laboratory animals, performing behavioral studies, evaluating mitochondrial health, and conducting and analyzing proteomics data Experience in design and performance of experiments, making graphs, doing statistics, and interpretation and dissemination of data

Salary Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
Pay Range:
