Senior Aerosol Scientist

Precise Systems seeks a Senior Aerosol Scientist. This position will be part of a research effort in the comprehensive characterization of threat materials and environmental backgrounds, and spans the entire spectrum, from aerosol generation, collection, and transport & dispersion to deposition and reaerosolization. We evaluate emerging technologies and materials for their capability to protect, collect, sample, and detect aerosols in diverse laboratory and outdoor settings. Our studies often incorporate dynamic environmental factors, surface-dependent features, and toxicology to fully characterize aerosol threat materials and ensure the safety of our nation's warfighters and civilians. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Senior Aerosol Scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to engage with the expert workforce, providing critical expertise in methodology development for aerosol threat characterization. This role is central to our mission and offers the chance to work across multiple disciplines, including biological sciences, respiratory protection, chemical and biological detection, and decontamination. This position will allow the candidate to broaden their awareness and experience with many different problem sets across several critical areas.

This role requires in-person support
Duties:
- Lead and guide teams in establishing novel aerosol methodologies for the characterization of chemical and biological threats and environmental backgrounds.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on bioaerosol collection, sampling techniques, and analysis.
- Operate, maintain, and develop custom aerosol generation equipment and associated environmental chambers, including software modifications.
- Integrate, operate, and troubleshoot a wide array of chemical and biological sensors and aerosol measurement instrumentation.
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets from both aerosol ground truth instrumentation and advanced detection equipment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers on projects related to respiratory protection, detection, and decontamination.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications for scientific and programmatic audiences.
- Contribute to a positive and innovative work culture that fosters collaboration and scientific excellence.
Required Education:
- M.
Required Experience:
- Five (5) years of research experience in either an academic, government or industry laboratory.
- Demonstrated experience in the field of aerosol science.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Experience:
- Experience with microbiology, virology, and the handling of biological materials in a BSL-1 and/or BSL-2 laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience with liquid and solid aerosol generation and characterization instrumentation (e.g., SMPS, APS, OPCs).
- Knowledge of respiratory protection principles and mask testing methodologies.
- Experience with various aerosol collection techniques (e.g., impingers, impactors, filters)
- Familiarity with chemical and/or biological detection technologies.
