Job Description

Patuxent River Park, located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is seeking two part - time staff to assist with its ongoing wild rice (Zizania aquatica) restoration program funded through NOAA. This will be the 25th consecutive year of dispersing seeds, protecting currents stands of wild rice with fencing, and collecting mature seeds. The hired candidates will assist with other park programs such as osprey banding, wood duck nest box monitoring, visitors center services, special event support, and interpretative programs. Candidates must be able to effectively work in the field. This is a seasonal position. Candidates are expected to work one weekend day per week. Conduct field work in wetlands (install fencing, disperse seed, collect mature seeds, etc) Assist with various other conservation projects Operate a boat Maintain organized field notes Assist with environmental educational programs, visitor center services, and special events Bachelors (or in progress of obtaining) in Biology, Environmental Science, Wildlife or related field GPA > 2.5 Experience working in wetlands and operating a boat is preferred but not required Dependable and reliable Organized and able to maintain detailed notes Able to work independently and in a team environment Valid driver's license and good driving record Must be able to work flexible schedule based around tides Must be available to work one weekend day per week May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing. This position accrues paid sick leave up to 40 hours/year. No other benefits are included. A background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
