Compensation Range:
$18.65 - $26.11 _The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
  • Responsibilities:
  • The individual will be part of a research team working to understand the biology of acute myeloid leukemia using cutting edge technologies.
Duties will include laboratory work related to molecular and cellular biology in the fields of stem cell biology and cancer biology, with a focus on hematological disorders. The individual will perform a variety of moderately complex laboratory experiments. Position requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. College level training in cellular and/or molecular biology are desirable. Initially, this individual will perform assignments working with regular supervision from the Project Director or the designee. Over time, this individual will develop independence in planning and performing experiments. - This position is uniquely suited as a launching point for research (PhD) or medicine (MD), and enables entry into a future career in cancer and stem cell biology (both academia and industry).
Procedures performed:
Stem cell culture procedures and genetic manipulation of cells (including retro- and lentiviral techniques). RNA isolation and RT-QPCR, protein isolation, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, immunofluorescent analyses and animal husbandry.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • + Perform routine cell culture of primary bone marrow derived hematopoietic cells.
+ Perform assays involved in the functional characterization of normal and abnormal hematopoietic progenitors including: use of flow cytometry to monitor HSC and blood cell progenitors in vivo, bone marrow transplantation assays, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections, tail and submandibular bleedings, etc. + Genotyping and maintenance of mouse strains under PI supervision. + Maintains detailed lab journal. Records and calculates results. Presents data in prescribed formats. + Uses input from PI and lab members to trouble shoot experiments and equipment malfunctions. Independence in problem solving is highly encouraged. + Performs general laboratory duties such as preparing reagents and re-stocking supplies and maintenance of cryopreservation systems. Helps to ensure laboratory compliance for biosafety, EHS and fire inspections. Other job duties and tasks as assigned.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • + High School diploma or GED required. + Associate's degree Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred + Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • + Highly motivated, ability to multitask, good organizational abilities, and ability to work well as part of a team.
+ Preferred experience in the field of molecular and cell biology, including sterile technique and tissue culture methodologies. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication. Ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels preferred. + Experience in a large complex health care or academic setting preferred. + Understanding of medical or laboratory terminology preferred. + Knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred.
