Job Description

Molecular Technical Lead / General Supervisor High-Complexity Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory We are seeking an experienced molecular laboratory professional to help build and support a growing high-complexity molecular diagnostics program in our new laboratory called Pathology Network. This is a foundational technical leadership role within an evolving laboratory environment. The individual in this position will develop molecular workflows, quality systems, assay validations, SOPs, and operational structure as the laboratory continues to expand. We are looking for someone who is highly independent, technically strong, operationally minded, and comfortable helping build processes in a fast-moving environment where not everything is fully established yet. This is not a highly siloed corporate laboratory role. The right candidate will have significant influence on laboratory development, workflow design, quality systems, and operational direction. Position Overview This role combines hands-on molecular bench work with technical oversight, laboratory development, assay implementation, quality management, and compliance responsibilities. The selected candidate will help establish scalable, compliant, and efficient molecular workflows while supporting same-day turnaround expectations for molecular testing. The schedule for this role will primarily support later/day-to-evening coverage to allow same-day processing and resulting of molecular specimens. Responsibilities Perform and oversee high-complexity molecular diagnostic testing Assist in development and expansion of molecular laboratory operations Develop, write, review, and maintain: SOPs Validation protocols and reports QC and QA procedures Competency assessments Training documentation Corrective action documentation Workflow and operational processes Participate in assay implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, and validation Assist with molecular instrumentation implementation and vendor coordination Troubleshoot technical, instrumentation, and workflow-related issues independently Support regulatory readiness and ongoing compliance with CLIA, CAP, COLA, and applicable state requirements Monitor assay quality, quality control, proficiency testing, and quality indicators Help establish scalable workflows and operational structure within a growing laboratory environment Collaborate closely with pathology operations, accessioning, histology, laboratory leadership, and LIS/IT teams Assist with training and competency oversight of laboratory personnel Participate in process improvement and operational development initiatives Required Qualifications Must meet CLIA requirements for General Supervisor eligibility for high-complexity testing Bachelor's degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related laboratory science Strong molecular diagnostics experience within a high-complexity clinical laboratory environment Experience performing and troubleshooting molecular assays Experience with assay validation, QC/QA systems, and regulated laboratory workflows Strong understanding of
CLIA/COLA
compliance and laboratory documentation standards Ability to work independently with minimal oversight Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Strong written communication and technical documentation abilities Comfortable working in a startup-style laboratory environment with evolving workflows and rapid growth Preferred Qualifications Prior experience helping build, launch, or expand a molecular laboratory program Previous lead, supervisory, or technical oversight experience Experience preparing for or participating in CAP and/or COLA inspections Experience with molecular oncology, infectious disease testing, PCR, qPCR, or NGS workflows Experience implementing new instrumentation or working directly with vendors during laboratory setup Familiarity with LIS integration and workflow optimization ASCP certification or other relevant molecular certification preferred Schedule Expectations This position will primarily support a later/day-to-evening schedule to allow same-day molecular testing turnaround. Flexibility is important as laboratory operations continue to grow and evolve.
