Advertised Job Duties Job Description:
Under the guidance of the Program Leader and supervision of the Animal Science Staff, the student will be trained to: 1
  • Assist in small ruminant applied research, collecting data, working on the daily methodology, and collecting and processing samples. 2
  • Assist with daily care and management of sheep research animals and facilities to support scientific research in agriculture. 3
  • Performance laboratory duties such as the preparation of samples and techniques. 4
  • Assistance in general animal management (breeding, lambing, weaning, feeding), animal health, maintaining flock/herd records, animal feeding, research facility maintenance, lab work, and other related duties.
5. Applicant must enjoy working closely with animals. 6. This position will require the successful applicant to work in various outdoor conditions which includes: varying weather conditions (working in the sun, hot and wet conditions etc.), working outdoors with various insects and contact with various species of plants. 7. Ability to work with various farm tools. 8. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds comfortably. •
THE STUDENT WILL BE TRAINED ON THE ABOVE TASKS.
Qualifications:
The student must be enrolled in a degree program related to agriculture or the life sciences. The student should be interested in pursuing a career in animal science, veterinary sciences, biological sciences, or related fields. The student must be interested in animal science research and open to learning new livestock and research techniques.
