Description :
Prepares and performs experiments under direction of supervisor. Maintains lab equipment and may perform basic repairs. 1. Prepares and performs experiments. 2. Maintains lab equipment by cleaning and performing basic repairs, contacts supervisor for more complicated repairs. 3. Notifies supervisor of deviations in or during experiments. 4. May maintain inventory and/or provide for care of animals. 5. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies and checks that equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
  • Repairs and/or modifies laboratory equipment, instruments, and associated facilities and assists with minor maintenance needs in department offices and shared spaces.
  • Procures parts, tools, and supplies for repairs and modifications.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance needs for laboratory equipment, department offices, the main department suite, and other departmental facilities with building maintenance personnel or outside contractors.
  • Provides general facilities and operational support for department offices, the main department suite, and other non-laboratory departmental needs.
  • Trains staff and students in laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Provides guidance to students, faculty, and staff regarding the safe and proper operation of equipment and instruments and supports safe laboratory working conditions.
  • Tests components, instruments, and equipment.
  • Identifies and recommends purchases of new and replacement equipment and associated facility improvements that support laboratory and departmental operations.
  • Maintains inventory and orders laboratory and general facilities supplies as assigned.
  • Conducts and maintains the capital equipment inventory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education will be considered in lieu of experience.
MQ:
Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
